Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the prevalence and risk factors of augmented renal clearance (ARC) in critically ill patients. The results showed a high prevalence of ARC in critically ill patients, especially in the neurocritical care and trauma ICU population. Young age, male sex, and trauma were identified as risk factors for ARC. This study is important for further research on optimal drug dosing in the setting of ARC.

Summary: Gastro-esophageal reflux (GER) symptoms are associated with an increased odds of Barrett's esophagus (BE), especially when the symptoms occur weekly. However, GER symptoms have low sensitivity and specificity for predicting BE, except for a strong association with long segment BE. Screening individuals with weekly GER symptoms may be beneficial to rule out long segment BE.

Summary: A systematic review and meta-analysis found that the overall prevalence of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) among Chinese is 10%. The prevalence of CRS in urban areas was 18%, lower than the prevalence in rural areas of 27%. The prevalence of CRS before 2010 was 23%, higher than the prevalence after 2010 of 7%. Individuals who were divorced had a prevalence of 17%, while those who were married, widowed, or unmarried had a prevalence of 9% each. Exposure to moldy or damp environments increased the prevalence of CRS, with occasional exposure at 16% and frequent or daily exposure at 20%.

Summary: Hybrid argon plasma coagulation (hAPC) is a novel technique that combines conventional argon plasma coagulation and waterjet submucosal expansion. This meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy and safety of hAPC in Barret's esophagus (BE) ablation and as an adjunct to colonic endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR). The results showed high percentages of endoscopic and histologic remission after hAPC for BE, along with low rates of adverse events and recurrence. Similarly, hAPC-assisted EMR had low rates of adverse events and recurrence. Further trials comparing hAPC with standard strategies are needed to support its use for these indications.

Summary: This study conducted a meta-analysis to investigate the global prevalence and potential risk factors of Cryptosporidium infection in Equus animals. The results showed a relatively high prevalence of Cryptosporidium in Equus animals, particularly in regions with low altitude, rainy, humid, and tropical climates. It is recommended for farmers to strengthen the management of young and female Equus animals and improve water filtration systems.

Summary: The prevalence of interstitial lung abnormalities (ILAs), which may indicate early interstitial lung disease (ILD), varies in different populations. ILAs are associated with an increased risk of mortality, with older age, male sex, and lower forced vital capacity (FVC%) being risk factors for ILAs.

Summary: This meta-analysis and systematic review aimed to summarize the prevalence and risk factors of frailty in stroke patients. The results showed that frailty was more common in stroke patients, and female gender, advanced age, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, atrial fibrillation, and higher National Institutes of Stroke Scale (NIHSS) admission scores were identified as risk factors. These findings suggest the importance of early frailty screening and prevention in high-risk groups.

Summary: This study aims to systematically analyze the wording of recommendations in the American Urological Association (AUA) clinical practice guidelines. The study found that the wording of recommendation statements does not indicate the strength of the recommendation and the intended level of obligation, which may hinder guideline implementation. More consistent wording of recommendations by strength may improve guideline understanding, uptake, and adherence.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the use and outcomes of COVID-19 screening and nucleic acid amplification testing (NAAT) in GI endoscopy and investigate the relationship between testing and resumption of endoscopy services. The findings showed that COVID-19 screening had low sensitivity but high specificity compared to NAAT. There was also a weak correlation between monthly testing and endoscopy volume.

Summary: This study evaluated gender parity in scientific authorship of systematic reviews published in urological literature. The findings showed that the number of women involved in systematic reviews is low and has not improved over time, which may contribute to the underrepresentation of women in academic leadership positions. Efforts to improve gender diversity in urology should include more collaboration across genders.
