Complex of microfungi colonizing mineral building materials, i.e. limestone and plaster, in interiors of cultural heritage was characterized. Wide-scale investigation was carried out with fourteen objects studied. We have revealed a specific culturable community. We have analyzed role of obtained microfungi in biodeterioraton process on the basis of our tests (pH and water activity preferences, ability to solubilize CaCO3) and literature data (substrate preferences and enzyme activities). The species most actively developing in mineral materials in indoor environments were Acremonium charticola, Acremonium furcatum, Lecanicillium sp., Parengyodontium album, Purpureocillium lilacinum and Sarocladium kiliense. Considering this fact and their ability to develop successfully at extremely wide range of pH values from slightly acidic to alkaline ones and their high enzymatic activities we conclude that the listed species are of high interest in seeking the cause of biodeterioration. These species can actively develop in materials penetrating for years deep into the substrates and causing their deterioration in conditions of considerably heightened moisture content. In this group, A. charticola and Lecanicillium sp. were able to solubilize CaCO3. (C) 2019 British Mycological Society. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Properties of the Yeast Communities Associated with Termites of a Tropical Monsoon Forest: Cat Tien National Park, Vietnam

A. I. Zueva, A. V. Kachalkin, I. A. Maksimova, Nguyen Van Thinh, A. V. Tiunov

Summary: Yeast populations associated with termitaria of five termite species in Cat Tien National Park in south Vietnam were investigated. The yeasts isolated from termite guts and body surface exhibited low species diversity but a relatively broad spectrum of morphological and physiological properties. The most common properties included mycelial or pseudomycelial growth, fermenting glucose, and using plant glycosides and wood degradation products as growth substrates.

Yeasts as an Element of Ampelocenosis Soil Biodiversity in an Arid Climate

D. A. Abdullabekova, E. S. Magomedova, G. G. Magomedov, A. V. Kachalkin

Summary: The study of light chestnut soil in a semi-desert-steppe area revealed it to be nonsaline, rich in bases, but lacking in certain plant nutrients. Analysis of the yeast taxonomy showed the soil's ability to store and distribute various physiological groups of yeasts in the natural cycle, expanding the potential for fungal participation in soil processes.

Tatiana A. Kuznetsova, Maksim V. Vecherskii, David R. Khayrullin, Aleksandr A. Stepankov, Irina A. Maximova, Aleksey Kachalkin, Nina A. Ushakova

Summary: Black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) show promise in producing cheap and high-quality dietary protein. This study investigated the fungal community of compost produced by BSFL larvae reared on a food waste substrate. The final mycobiome of the compost consisted of only two yeast species, with a total abundance of 1.2 x 10(7) CFU g(-1), after the incubation of larvae.

Summary: Microbiological investigation of the cloth exposed on the International Space Station (ISS) for 8 years revealed viable Rhodotorula mucilaginosa yeasts. These yeasts showed similarities to strains isolated from the ISS interior, and physiological testing indicated some differences between the cloth strain and the cultured yeast strain previously detected in the ISS interior. The investigation also demonstrated the changing sensitivity of fungal strains to antifungal drugs depending on the number of passages.

Summary: The type strain Rhodotorula pinalis VKM Y-2963 was genetically and phylogenetically characterized, and it was found to be conspecific with strains from Sphagnum mosses and dead conifer needles. Phylogenetic analysis suggests that the species Rh. pinalis should be reassigned to the genus Fellozyma.

Summary: A study conducted in southern cities of Russia and the Republic of Crimea in 2020 examined the presence of yeasts in soil samples from streets, urban parks, and suburban areas. The study compared the results with a previous study conducted in 2019 and found that the yeast abundance was slightly higher in 2020 after the reduction in household waste deposition. The composition of yeast communities also changed, with an increase in autochthonous basidiomycetous yeast species and a decrease in clinically significant yeasts.

Summary: Leucosporidium egoroviorum f.a., sp. nov., a new anamorphic species of the basidiomycetous yeasts, was isolated as an endophyte from the fruits of Cucurbita pepo subsp. pepo (zucchini). The new species showed significant differences in genetic, physiological, and morphological characteristics compared to closely related species L. fellii, L. intermedium, and L. krtinense. The holotype KBP Y-6804T is preserved in a metabolically inactive state, and the isotype strains are VKM Y-3065, DSM 113574, and CBS 17590. The MycoBank number is MB 842805.

Yeasts associated with mines on tree leaves in the urban areas

Anna Glushakova, Aleksey Kachalkin

Summary: The study investigated yeast complexes in urban areas by studying mines on tree leaves and undamaged leaves. It was found that the abundance of yeasts increased significantly during the development of mines, and no significant differences were observed between mines formed by different insects on different trees. Twelve yeast species were observed, with ascomycetous yeasts Hanseniaspora uvarum and H. occidentalis dominating the mines.

Endophytic strains of the yeast Metschnikowia pulcherrima positive for phytohormones production

Aleksey V. Kachalkin, Anna A. Lepeshko, Rostislav A. Streletskii, Anna M. Glushakova

Summary: This study evaluated the phytohormonal activity of Metschnikowia pulcherrima yeast strains isolated from the internal tissues of fruits. The production of IAA, zeatin, and GA3 was determined using chromatographic methods. The results showed that the strains had the highest activity in IAA synthesis, while the levels of zeatin and GA3 were much lower. These findings suggest that M. pulcherrima yeast strains may have a role in promoting plant development and growth.

Diversity of Endophytic Yeasts from Agricultural Fruits Positive for Phytohormone IAA Production

Aleksey Kachalkin, Anna Glushakova, Rostislav Streletskii

Summary: This study reports the diversity of cultivable endophytic yeasts from agricultural fruits that respond positively to the plant-promoting property of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) production. The most active endophytic yeast strains belonged to several species. The results suggest that the internal tissues of fruits may be a promising source for the isolation of plant-beneficial yeasts that can be used to promote plant growth.

Summary: The accurate application of fungal names is crucial for scientific communication, clinical diagnostics, and regulatory compliance. Maintaining the stability of the taxonomic system and ensuring the traceability of nomenclatural changes are key for a broad range of users and taxonomists. Proper preservation of nomenclatural history and physical organisms representing names is essential to assure the unambiguous application of names.
