Summary: This study compared the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of orally administered ?9-THC-dominant and CBD-dominant cannabis extracts at the same dose of ?9-THC (20 mg). The results showed that the use of CBD-dominant extract resulted in stronger adverse effects, contradicting the common claim that CBD attenuates the adverse effects of ?9-THC. These differences are likely due to the inhibition of ?9-THC and 11-OH-?9-THC metabolism by CBD. This study is important for understanding the clinical and regulatory decisions regarding the use of cannabis products and the interactions between cannabinoid compounds and drugs.

Summary: Contrary to the belief that cannabis is harmless, exposure to it during adolescence increases the risk of developing psychopathologies in adulthood. This study found that repeated exposure to low and high doses of THC during adolescence had different effects on behavior in adulthood. The study also revealed disturbances in gene networks related to reward processing and stress, as well as dysregulation of astrocytes.

Summary: Prenatal cannabis use poses significant health risks for the developing fetus, largely due to THC-induced mitochondrial dysfunction. Experimental results show that THC treatment significantly reduces cell proliferation and invasion, increases cellular oxidative stress and lipid damage, and induces mitochondrial fission. These effects may be variably mediated by cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2 in HTR8/SVneo biology.

Summary: This study explores the impact of adolescent exposure to THC on memory and social behaviors in mice. Through transcriptome profiling and gene coexpression network analysis, the researchers identified cognitive modules in different brain regions that correlated with THC treatment and memory traits. They also discovered molecular circuitries influenced by THC across brain regions. Furthermore, key driver genes associated with THC and cannabis use disorder were identified, shedding light on the regulatory mechanisms underlying vulnerability to CUD.

Summary: Adolescents exposed to cannabis may experience behavioral and brain impairments, but CBD may help mitigate some of the adverse effects of THC, while a combination of CBD and THC could have long-term detrimental effects on cognition.

Summary: This study used rhesus macaques as the animal model to investigate the effects of THC on male reproductive health and whether discontinuation of THC use can mitigate these effects. The results showed that chronic THC use caused testicular atrophy, decreased sex hormone levels, and changes in semen parameters, while these effects were partially restored after discontinuation of THC use.

Summary: The study demonstrates the use of unfunctionalized organic electrochemical transistors for detecting delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Delta(9)-THC) in water and synthetic saliva buffer. By coupling a platinum gate with aerosol jet printed OECT, the concentration of Delta(9)-THC can be detected through its oxidation reaction. The OECT-based sensors show high sensitivity in detecting Delta(9)-THC with less than 3% error and good repeatability.

Summary: With increasing marijuana legalization, there is a need for technology that can determine recent marijuana usage. This study explores the electrochemical oxidation of & UDelta;(9)-THC as a framework for developing an electrochemical sensor. The oxidation process, using a copper anode, platinum cathode, and oxygen atmosphere, is feasible at nanomolar concentrations. The research also demonstrates the possibility of capturing vaporized & UDelta;(9)-THC in an electrolyte medium for electrochemical oxidation, paving the way for future technology development.
