Solid pseudo reference electrode (RE) was fabricated using graphene-cement composites for corrosion monitoring in concrete. The pore size structure and micro morphology of composites and the electrochemical performances of pseudo REs were investigated. Results reveal graphene improves the pore structure and electrical conductivity of composites. RE with largest graphene content (PRE-G20) shows better stability, reliability and resistance to pH and interfering ions compared to other REs with lower graphene contents. In addition, PRE-G20 potential has a linear response with temperature. Measuring rebar potential by embedding prepared RE in concrete could differentiate the passive or active states of steel. In this context PRE-G20 is recommended to act as pseudo solid RE in concrete due to its reliable electrochemical properties, easy fabrication as well as compatibility with concrete.
