Urban counties were more likely to achieve this goal.

Summary: This study analysed the burden and temporal trends of tuberculosis (TB) incidence and mortality globally, and examined the association between mortality-to-incidence ratio (MIR) and Socio-Demographic Index (SDI). The results showed a declining trend in the global incidence and mortality of TB between 1990 and 2019, with high SDI regions experiencing a higher decline rate than low SDI regions. Nearly half of the new TB patients occurred in South Asia. There was a sex-age imbalance in the burden of TB, with young males having higher incidence and mortality rates than females. The study also found that drug-sensitive TB accounted for the majority of incidents and deaths and experienced a decline over the past 30 years, while drug-resistant TB (MDR-TB and XDR-TB) showed an overall increasing trend.

Summary: The global burden of atrial fibrillation/atrial flutter (AF/AFL) was estimated using data from the Global Health Data Exchange. While the age-standardised rates of prevalence, incidence, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) decreased from 1990 to 2017, the absolute number of patients with AF/AFL, annual number of new cases, and DALYs lost due to AF/AFL increased. Risk factors such as elevated systolic blood pressure, high body mass index, alcohol use, and smoking contributed significantly to the burden of AF/AFL. More systematic surveillance and management are needed to address this issue.
