Nowadays, lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) represent a key technology for energy storage in electromobility or stationary applications. Lithium-ion electrodes, more specifically their mechanical properties, such as the adhesion strength, play an active role for the life span of LIBd. Herein, parameter- and process-oriented investigations are conducted within electrode manufacturing to identify the main levers to improve the mechanical characteristics of electrodes. Among the investigated factors and processes, the binder amount, the coating thickness, and the calendaring represent the main influencing factors of the adhesion strength. A transfer of these findings can play an important role for the implementation of new anode materials, such as silicon, enabling high-energy batteries with increased lifetime.
