Summary: This study investigates the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in six European countries from March 2020 to February 2022. A multivariate adaptive regression model is used to account for the quasi-periodic effects of pandemic waves and the global economic shock on crude oil prices, and to compare their induced effects on each country's CPI. The findings reveal that most European countries experience a sharp increase in CPI and inflation due to pandemic restrictions, except for Greece and Spain. Additionally, the emergent economies are more influenced by oil price and pandemic restrictions compared to the developed ones.
