Background: Microvascular invasion (MVI) is the most important risk factor associated with early postoperative recurrence in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the efficacy of postoperative adjuvant treatment for preventing recurrence in HCC patients with MVI has not been assessed. This study investigated the efficacy of postoperative adjuvant radiotherapy (RT) and transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) in HCC patients with MVI. Materials and methods: From July 2008 to December 2016, 117 hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related HCC patients with MVI were retrospectively divided into two groups based on postoperative adjuvant treatments. Propensity score matching (PSM) was performed to adjust for significant differences in baseline characteristics. Relapse-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) of the two groups were analyzed before and after PSM. Results: Of all patients, the RT group had significantly smaller tumor size and milder MVI classification. PSM analysis created 46 pairs of patients. After matching, the two groups of patients were similar in baseline characteristics. Multivariate analysis indicated that tumor size, MVI classification, and postoperative treatment strategies were independently associated with RFS; tumor size and MVI classification were independently associated with OS. Similar multivariate analysis results were demonstrated after matching propensity score. Survival analysis revealed that the estimated median RFS and OS of patients with RT and TACK were 25.74 +/- 8.12 vs 9.18 +/- 1.67 months (P=0.003) and 60.69 +/- 7.36 vs 36.53 +/- 5.34 months (P=0.262), respectively. The RT group had significantly longer RFS than the TACE group. Conclusion: Postoperative adjuvant RT offers better RFS for HCC patients with MVI than TACE.

Self-assessment first or peer-assessment first: effects of video-based formative practice on learners' English public speaking anxiety and performance

Chunping Zheng, Lili Wang, Ching Sing Chai

Summary: This study explores and explains the effects of different sequences of video-based formative assessment on English language learners' public speaking anxiety and performance. The findings show that learners who engaged in self-assessment first had lower public speaking anxiety, while those who engaged in peer-assessment first had better public speaking performance. Therefore, the sequence of formative assessment should be adjusted based on learners' anxiety levels and language proficiency in public speaking courses.

Integration of global and local information for text classification

Xianghua Li, Xinyu Wu, Zheng Luo, Zhanwei Du, Zhen Wang, Chao Gao

Summary: Text classification is a fundamental problem in natural language processing. Graph-based models, such as GNN-based and GCN-based models, have recently been applied to this task and achieved excellent performance by modeling context from a global perspective. However, existing graph-based models often construct a corpus-level graph structure, leading to high memory consumption and overlooking local contextual information. To address these issues, this paper proposes a novel GNN-based model called TSW-GNN, which constructs a unique text-level graph for each text using two sliding windows. Extensive experiments on benchmark datasets demonstrate the improvement of TSW-GNN in classification accuracy compared to state-of-the-art models.

A Spacer Cation Assisted Nucleation and Growth Strategy Enables Efficient and High-Luminance Quasi-2D Perovskite LEDs

Lingmei Kong, Yaning Luo, Lyudmila Turyanska, Ting Zhang, Zhipeng Zhang, Guichuan Xing, Yingguo Yang, Chengxi Zhang, Xuyong Yang

Summary: This study develops a strategy for nucleation and growth of perovskite films with the assistance of spacer cations. The addition of guanidinium (GA(+)) spacer enhances the optical and electrical performance of perovskite films by providing more nucleation sites and reducing the crystallization rate. The strategy also promotes the formation of polydisperse domain distribution and interaction with perovskite defects through coordination bonding. The resulting perovskite LEDs exhibit high efficiency and brightness.

Summary: The catalytic pyrolysis of low-density polyethylene over hierarchical HZSM-5 zeolite was studied to improve liquid oil quality. Nanocrystalline cellulose was used as a template to successfully synthesize the hierarchical zeolite, which showed ordered surface morphology and excellent porous structure. Compared to conventional HZSM-5, hierarchical HZSM-5 zeolite significantly increased bio-oil yield and altered the relative content of cycloalkanes and aromatics.

The Effects of Drainage Conditions on the Cyclic Deformation Characteristics of Over Consolidated Clayey Soil

Guiping Nie, Ying Liu, Zhiyong Liu, Zhixuan Liang, Jianfeng Xue, Yaowei Liang

Summary: Drainage conditions and consolidation states can affect the deformation behavior of clayey soil under cyclic loading. The lateral deformation in soils under partially drained conditions is similar to those under undrained conditions with the increase of over consolidation ratio. Under undrained conditions, a large axial strain could accumulate with a small amount accumulation in excess pore water pressure, while under partially drained conditions, the resilient modulus of the soil decreases as the volumetric strain increases.

Summary: This study explores the variations in the ecological risks of pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs) in surface water and identifies the critical sources. The research found that rural areas have a higher contamination level than urban areas. Medical wastewater contributes the highest proportion, while domestic sewage poses the greatest threat to aquatic ecosystems. The study highlights the importance of developing environmental management strategies to reduce PPCP contamination, with a focus on domestic sewage in urban areas and aquaculture in rural areas.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the clinical features, prognosis, and treatment of advanced-stage non-nasal type extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTCL). The results showed that non-nasal type ENKTCLs had higher Ki-67 expression levels compared to nasal type disease. The non-nasal group showed slightly inferior survival outcomes compared to the nasal group, but without statistically significant differences. Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) score >= 2 and lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) elevation were significantly correlated with worse overall survival in the non-nasal group.
