Summary: Consumption of berry fruits has increased due to their richness in polyphenols with health benefits. A new HPLC-MS/MS method was developed for simultaneous determination of 36 phenolic compounds in blueberry, strawberry, and their jam. Blueberries showed higher contents of anthocyanins, flavonols, and phenolic acids, while strawberries exhibited higher contents of flavan-3-ols, dihydrochalcones, and flavanones. Anthocyanins were the main phenolic constituents in both berries, and blueberries had greater antioxidant capacity than strawberries. The method can be useful for quality control and authentication analyses of blueberry and strawberry fruits and their commercial products like jams.

Summary: To overcome the nitrogen removal barrier, carbon sources were applied in aniline degradation reactor to enrich heterotrophic nitrifiers and denitrifiers, leading to almost complete degradation of aniline and improved nitrogen removal performance in three systems. The Z2 system showed the highest total nitrogen removal efficiency and had more high-abundance communities compared to Z1 and Z3. The different systems followed the meta-cleavage pathway for aniline degradation, with Z2 exhibiting a more evenly distributed contribution of each genus to nitrogen metabolism and aromatic compounds degradation.

Summary: In this study, the solid solution NiFe2-xMnxO4 was synthesized using the sol-gel method, and its physical properties were investigated for the first time. The thermal analysis revealed that phase transformation occurred above 400 degrees C, with the oxides crystallizing into an inverse cubic spinel structure. The UV-Visible spectroscopy showed both direct and indirect optical transitions due to crystal field splitting of 3d metals, with the saturation magnetization varying between 0.5 and 20 emu/g. The electrical conductivity exhibited conduction mechanism by low polaron hopping with variable activation energies, and the hole densities were determined electrochemically from capacitance measurements.

Summary: La2NiO4 synthesized by nitrate route shows positive results as a catalyst for hydrogen photo-evolution, with a band gap of 1.51 eV and a p-type semiconductor nature. The hetero-system of La2NiO4/SnO2 exhibits higher H-2 evolution rate compared to pure La2NiO4, attributed to efficient electron injection and improved water reduction. High performance is achieved at pH 13 with S2O3-3 as a hole scavenger.
