Summary: Obesity rates have tripled globally in the past decades, often with a co-morbidity such as depression. Different lifestyle factors can contribute to the same health condition. This study investigates the lifestyle factors relating to obesity and mental health in Qatar and UK populations, revealing varying results between the two countries.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the situation of metabolically healthy overweight and obesity (MHOO) individuals in Asia and the factors associated with maintaining their metabolic health. The results showed that older age, longer follow-up time, higher BMI, and increased waist circumference were detrimental factors for metabolic health. However, sociodemographic factors and lifestyle factors did not have significant relationships with metabolic health among MHOO individuals.

Summary: The prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) has been increasing, and younger and middle-aged individuals with lifestyle-related diseases are at a higher risk of CKD. This article summarizes the predictive factors for CKD in the young population and the management of common diseases like hypertension and diabetes in middle-aged patients. As kidney function is mostly normal in the younger and middle-aged population with a lower risk of incident CKD, this review is important for reducing the prevalence of CKD.

Summary: The prevalence of obesity and MetS in Ecuador is high, with significant gender differences in the prevalence of MetS. Urban areas, low altitude regions, and high socioeconomic status are associated with higher rates of obesity and MetS. Further targeted research and prevention efforts are needed to address this public health issue.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the association between metabolic syndrome risk factors and the lifestyle of adults and elderly individuals in Teresina, Piaui. The results showed that consuming natural fruit juice, irregular physical activity, and current smoking habits may act as protective factors against at least one risk factor for metabolic syndrome, while frequent alcohol consumption may increase the risk. These findings have important implications for public health.

Summary: Objective: This study aimed to examine the association between sexual orientation and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in women aged 20 to 59 years. The results showed that self-identified sexual minority women (SMW) had a higher risk of large waist circumference and obesity, while questioning SMW had a higher risk of low levels of high-density lipoprotein.

Summary: This study selected six easily measurable and calculable anthropometric indices and evaluated their associations with the onset of Metabolic Syndrome (MetS). The results showed that an increase in all six indices was associated with a higher risk of MetS, with waist circumference (WC) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHtR) changes being the strongest predictors. An increase of 5 cm in WC and 0.025 in WHtR were recommended as the optimal cut-offs for MetS prediction.

Summary: This study aimed to assess factors associated with overweight and obesity in adults from Rio Branco, Acre, in the western Brazilian Amazon. The study found that factors such as hypertension, physical inactivity, age, and smoking were associated with overweight, while hypertension and diabetes were associated with obesity. There is a need for public recognition of overweight and obesity and their possible associated factors in the Amazon and other similar regions.
