Summary: This paper examines the ongoing transition to agroecology in Nicaragua and the role of knowledge flows and intermediary actors in shaping this transition. The study reveals that the focus of knowledge processes and the functions of intermediaries have shifted over time. Dedicated intermediaries and actors moving between niche and regime have played key roles in promoting agroecology. The study also identifies areas where the transition dynamics lag and suggests entry points for broader systems change.

Summary: The dominant agricultural and food systems are causing continuous resource depletion and negative environmental and social impacts. There is a call for new research in sustainability transitions to address the global challenges faced by agri-food systems, focusing on dynamics between coupled systems, social justice and equity, transitions in low- and middle-income countries, and cross-sectoral governance and integration. This research aims to move beyond single-scale and sector perspectives towards more inclusive and comprehensive analyses of food system dynamics.

The results show that China has continuously promoted food system transformation but also faces new challenges in food security. In the future, China is expected to focus on promoting healthy diets, sustainable agricultural production, climate change mitigation, and reducing food waste and loss.

By studying a unique case of agroecological transition in France, it identifies mechanisms and actions involved in the transition, emphasizing the role of multiple niches influencing the agri-food system. The results suggest that transitions may be fostered by supporting the diffusion of alternative technological paradigms, stimulating diverse radical innovations, and emphasizing organizational innovations that rebalance power relations.

Summary: The purpose of this study is to examine the trust relationships in a local agri-food supply chain in Southern Brazil and explore their contributions to sustainable development. The findings indicate that the supply chain needs better organization. Communication and interpersonal trust play important roles in the relationships between producers and control bodies. The university, as a seed supplier, requires predictability and efficiency to foster inter-organizational trust. Informal relationships are based on trust and inter-organizational trust enhances establishment performance and facilitates the development of innovative structures. Additionally, interpersonal trust increases during crisis periods.

Summary: This study evaluates the impact of long-term industrial transitions on local sustainability actions. It examines the direction and magnitude of historical industrial transitions, as well as the planning, capabilities, and performance of local government sustainability actions. Through a national survey and historical manufacturing employment data in the U.S., the study finds that communities with significant fluctuations in manufacturing jobs are less likely to engage in sustainability planning, develop sustainability-related capabilities, and achieve sustainability goals, highlighting the challenges of top-down programs and the importance of decentralized solutions.

Summary: The study examines how a grassroots movement in the northeastern Italian Alps has driven stricter municipal regulation of agricultural pesticide use and support for a more sustainable and localized agri-food system. The findings highlight the key role played by the grassroots anti-pesticide mobilization in reforming municipal pesticide regulations and slowing down the expansion of intensive agriculture. The study also discusses the framing strategies used by activists and the role of different forms of food democracy processes in facilitating the emergence of a territorial vision of just sustainability transitions.
