Summary: Psoriasis, previously considered as a skin-limited condition, is now recognized as a chronic, immune-mediated inflammatory disease with systemic manifestations. Besides the skin changes, it is associated with important comorbidities, such as psoriatic arthritis, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and inflammatory bowel disease. Psoriasis is also an independent risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, and biological therapy may have an effect on atherosclerosis regression.

Summary: In this study, three subtypes of the COPD cardiovascular phenotype were identified in UK patients, each characterized by different features and disease profiles. The random forest model was found to be the most accurate for predicting cardiovascular comorbidities in COPD patients with the cardiovascular phenotype.

Summary: Comorbidities significantly impact COPD patients, and targeted early screening and treatment may have a significant effect on COPD outcomes. Recent studies suggest that certain radiographic features can serve as surrogate markers for comorbid disease in COPD patients.

Summary: In smoking-induced COPD, patients with various comorbidities may have suppressed T-cell immunity, leading to a potential explanation for the association with frequent exacerbations. Different biomarkers at varying concentrations can modulate T-cell activation markers, with a clear shift towards suppressive effects, particularly for asthma- and cancer-related comorbidities.

Summary: Cardiovascular disease is a common comorbidity in psoriatic patients. The etiology and progression of both psoriasis and cardiovascular disease involve various factors, including genetics and gut microbiome dysbiosis. This study found a higher prevalence of Barnesiellaceae and Phascolarctobacterium in the gut microbiome of psoriatic patients with cardiovascular disease. Psoriatic patients undergoing biologic therapy had lower levels of Barnesiellaceae, comparable to those without cardiovascular disease.

Summary: Sheehan syndrome caused by postpartum hemorrhage leads to pituitary hormone deficiency, resulting in various abnormalities including lipid and glucose abnormalities, increased body fat, insulin resistance, coagulation abnormalities, increased leptin concentration, low-grade inflammation, and endothelial dysfunction. Replacement with growth hormone in addition to standard hormone replacement improves the cardiometabolic profile of patients with Sheehan syndrome.

Summary: Oxidative stress driven by environmental and local airway factors is a significant contributor to chronic obstructive bronchiolitis, a key feature of COPD. The imbalance between oxidants and antioxidants amplifies local inflammation, worsens cardiovascular health, and contributes to COPD-related cardiovascular dysfunctions and mortality. This review provides an overview of recent advances in understanding the mechanisms and countermeasures of oxidative stress, with a focus on the interplay between local and systemic processes. It also introduces major regulatory mechanisms and suggests areas for further research in this field.

Summary: Psoriasis used to be considered a skin disease with complications related to diet and obesity, but it is now recognized as a systemic inflammatory disease with cytokines that can induce various other diseases. Individuals with psoriasis have higher incidences of cerebral and cardiovascular diseases and tend to die at a younger age. Clear guidelines have not yet been established for how much vascular lesion testing should be performed in patients with psoriasis.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of comorbidities in OS and OSAS patients, finding that OS patients exhibit more severe nocturnal hypoxia and impaired gas exchange in wakefulness, as well as a higher burden of cardiovascular disease compared to OSAS patients matched in sex, age, and BMI.

Summary: In recent years, researchers have focused on the development of comorbidities associated with axial spondyloarthritis, such as hypertension, smoking, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, obesity, and the presence of inflammation. Previous studies have shown that HLA-B27 could be a genetic risk factor for various cardiac conditions. Evaluating cardiovascular risks periodically and considering all risks and benefits in spondyloarthropathies is crucial in the treatment and follow-up of these patients.

Summary: Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in high-income countries, although its impact is decreasing. Statins are effective in reducing LDL cholesterol and the risk of mortality, but are under-prescribed or under-dosed due to concerns about side effects. Personalized treatment decisions should be made based on individual considerations and shared decision-making.

Summary: Women with coexisting comorbidities at the time of breast cancer diagnosis have an increased risk of breast cancer and overall mortality. Newly diagnosed comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, and CVD are associated with an increased risk of CVD mortality among breast cancer patients, especially those who receive chemotherapy. Monitoring for these conditions from the time of breast cancer diagnosis may help reduce CVD mortality.

Summary: This study found that the prevalence of COPD and current smokers among COVID-19 patients was not high, suggesting they were not at increased risk of infection. However, once infected, COPD patients and former smokers had the highest all-cause mortality, primarily due to the presence of comorbidities.

Summary: Information about comorbidities in primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS) is limited, but cardiovascular disease, infections, musculoskeletal conditions, and malignancy are likely the most relevant comorbid conditions in pSS. Infections such as oral candidal infections and fibromyalgia are common in daily practice, while incidences of cardiovascular events and cancer in pSS are relatively low compared to the general population. Early atherosclerosis has been found in pSS patients through different techniques, with a slightly increased risk of coronary events and malignancy in these patients.

Summary: Heart failure is a leading cause of death worldwide and there is a need for better biomarkers for risk stratification. Recent research has shown that sST2 has potential as a biomarker. In this study, an aptamer against sST2 was identified from an aptamer library and used to detect sST2 levels. The results suggest that a combination of aptamer and antibody-based assay can be used to design a rapid detection method for heart failure patients in emergency settings.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the acute cardiac toxicity caused by IORT in early breast cancer patients. The results showed no significant differences in troponin I levels between patients who received IORT during breast-conserving surgery and those who did not, suggesting IORT may not increase the risk of acute cardiac toxicity in these patients.

Summary: The study found that age is the most important factor influencing SF6-MBW parameters, with a significant impact on global ventilation heterogeneity and acinar ventilation heterogeneity. Smoking has a minimal effect on the parameters. Height, weight, and sex do not appear to have an impact on the parameters.

Summary: The study aimed to explore the impact of symptom control on physical activity and body composition in asthma patients. The results showed that patients with uncontrolled asthma had increased fat mass and decreased muscle mass compared to those with controlled asthma or healthy controls. Physical activity was found to be an independent predictor of body composition, with persistently uncontrolled asthma patients demonstrating sustained physical inactivity and adverse changes in body composition.
