Summary: The study demonstrated that the dilute acid-thermal pretreatment and cattle dung biochar addition significantly improved the anaerobic co-digestion of water hyacinth with waste activated sludge, leading to higher biogas production and methane content. The optimal result was observed in pretreated water hyacinth with 1% biochar addition, showing higher methane yield and VS removal efficiency. Overall, the combination of dilute acid-thermal pretreatment and biochar addition proved to be a promising method for efficient biomethanation.

Summary: Waste banknote paper, which cannot be recycled due to ink, microbial load, and special coating, is often burned or buried, leading to environmental impacts. To reduce these impacts, producing bioethanol and biogas from waste banknote paper is proposed. Results suggest that ink presence reduces bioethanol and biogas yields, with chemical-free NED pretreatment showing advantages in production.

Summary: The study demonstrated that pretreatment with CO2 and liquid digestate from anaerobic digestion can improve the glucose and xylose content of corn straw, reduce cellulose crystallinity, and increase methane yield. However, high temperature pretreatment resulted in the production of inhibitors that decreased methane production during subsequent anaerobic digestion. The changes in microbial community in the pretreated slurry at lower temperature were found to enhance the overall performance of anaerobic digestion.

Summary: Compared to conventional anaerobic digester sludge, a microbial consortium acclimatized to lignocellulose shows higher biogas productivity and methane yield. The dominant members within the Firmicutes, Bacteroidota, and Halobacteriota phyla are responsible for the increased methane production, while the abundance of syntrophic bacteria such as Proteiniphilum, Fermentimonas, Syntrophomonas, and Methanosarcina helps maintain digester stability and improve substrate-to-methane conversion.

Summary: The fossil fuel-based linear economy has inherent complexities such as environmental pollution, while the sustainable circular bioeconomy valorizes biomass waste for energy generation and decreases waste materials and greenhouse gas emissions. Biogas plays a key role in the modern bioeconomy, enabling heat and electricity generation, fossil fuel substitution in transportation, and the production of value-added products and byproducts. Anaerobic digestion and microbial interventions enhance the biomethanation process, making the valorization of food waste essential in a circular bioeconomy.

Transmission occurs through the bite of Culicoides species, and global climate change has contributed to its spread. Research has led to a better understanding of the disease, the virus life cycle, and the biology of the Culicoides vector. This review discusses the current findings on BT, including disease aspects, virus-host-vector interactions, and diagnostic and control strategies.
