Summary: In this study, the different desorption concepts of the two polyelectrolytes with similar molecular weights but significantly different charge densities on PSL particles were systematically investigated. For highly charged PTMA5M, desorption continued for 4 hours and re-adsorption proceeded after a longer incubation time, while for lowly charged PTMC5M, an adsorption-desorption equilibrium was observed.

Summary: This study assessed the repeatability and reliability of different commercially available diagnostic platforms in the objective assessment of tear film parameters and found that they cannot be used interchangeably. There were significant differences in the measurement values of tear film parameters between different instruments, and patients with dry eye disease had higher variability in tear film parameters.

Summary: This study investigated the anisotropic elastic properties of different montmorillonites under various layer charge densities and distributions through molecular dynamic simulations. It was found that the in-plane compressional coefficients decrease with increasing layer charge density, while the out-of-plane compressional coefficients vary depending on the distribution of layer charges. The shear coefficients were not significantly influenced by the layer charge density and distribution. The results provide insights into how the density and distribution of layer charges affect the anisotropic elastic properties of montmorillonites.

Summary: By adjusting the surface charge density of TOCNs, the properties and stability of the film can be improved. The TOCNs in sodium alginate/chitosan multilayer film form a compact and uniform interlayer structure through strong electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonding. The addition of TOCNs can also enhance the mechanical properties, thermal stability, hydrophobicity, and barrier properties of the multilayer film.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of chronic hypertension (HTN) and hypertensive retinopathy (HTNR) on retinal damage, revealing that HTNR patients had more severe inner retinal damage compared to microvasculature impairment, and the GC-IPL/VD ratio in HTNR patients was significantly associated with systolic blood pressure, emphasizing the need for stricter blood pressure control in HTNR patients.

Summary: In this study, fire tests were conducted to select a suitable method for determining the smoke layer interface height based on temperature distribution. The inflexion point method was proposed after comparing various methods and visually observing the smoke layer. The results showed that different methods were suitable for tunnels with different cross-sectional shapes.

Summary: In this study, zirconia layers with different fractions of tetragonal phase and thicknesses were tested for multi-cracking behavior. Cracks perpendicular to the tensile direction were observed, showing a blunting effect into the substrate. The ratio of crack spacing at saturation to layer thickness decreased as the layer thickness increased. Unit cell modeling was used to establish a relationship between crack spacing and layer strength, which fell within the bounds of Hu and Evans model and was found to be insensitive to the tetragonal zirconia fraction.

Summary: The phonon and electron transport properties of Si single crystals were investigated, and their relationship with the phonon-drag effect was clarified. Phonons with a long mean free path and low frequency increase the Seebeck coefficient via the phonon-drag effect, which is crucial in designing thermoelectric materials with enhanced performance.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the clinical characteristics associated with structural progression in open-angle glaucoma (OAG) in the presence of macular vessel density (MvD) in different locations. The findings showed that thinning of the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) was more pronounced in eyes with inferior MvD compared to those with temporal MvD when there was greater long-term intraocular pressure (IOP) fluctuation. This suggests that IOP fluctuation may play a role in the structural progression of OAG eyes with inferior MvD.
