Summary: The present work focuses on investigating the compatibility of aliphatic polyester blends in terms of dielectric and structural properties. Polypropylene/poly(butylene succinate) (PP/PBS) polymer blends with different weight ratios were prepared and studied using broadband dielectric spectroscopy (BDS), atomic force microscope (AFM) with electric mode electrostatic force microscopy (EFM), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results indicate poor compatibility and immiscibility between the two phases of the polymer blends.

Summary: Electroplating on polymers involves chemical and mechanical interactions of the surface to ensure adhesion. However, the relative contributions of these factors have been debated without quantitative evidence. This study separates the contribution of polymer chemistry by using non-interlocking micro-textures with varied surface area. The results show that chemical adhesion only contributes a minor fraction to the overall adhesion strength in electroplating.

Summary: This study investigates how to determine and optimize the efficiency of Resonant Acoustic Mixing (RAM). An idealized Polymer Bonded eXplosive (PBX) simulant based on glass microbeads was used for mixing, and machine output data was used to monitor the mixing evolution. The results show that different stages of mixing correspond to different stages of the mixer intensity profiles, and the time to mixing completion depends on the acceleration setting and vessel material. The study also finds that partial vacuum application without degassing is beneficial for mixing.

Summary: This study aimed to prepare thermoplastic based hybrid wood veneer composite panels using bamboo fiber reinforced thermoplastic (BPC) and Melia dubia wood veneers. The effect of polymer type (PP, HDPE, PBAT) and bamboo fiber content on the properties of the plywood was investigated. Plywood prepared with BPC showed superior mechanical properties, with improved flexural strength and interfacial adhesion between BPC and wood veneers.

Summary: This study aimed to contain and remediate copper mine contamination by using modified bentonite with low hydraulic conductivity and good chemical compatibility. The addition of sodium polyacrylate (PAA) or sodium-carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) decreased the hydraulic conductivity and increased the tortuosity of flow channel. The excessive use of the polymer slightly increased the permeability. The acidic condition had a minor impact on the hydraulic conductivity of the bentonite. This research filled the gap in creating low permeable polymer-modified bentonite for acidic and high heavy metal content condition near copper mines.

Summary: This study investigates the shock initiation process of NTO-based polymer bonded explosive JEOL-1 through cylinder tests, gap experiments, and numerical simulations. The detonation velocity, JWL equation of state parameters, and Hugoniot curve of JEOL-1 are determined. The pressure growth history and ignition and growth reaction rate equation parameters are obtained through shock initiation gap experiments and numerical simulations. These findings can be applied to the design and simulation analysis of insensitive ammunition with NTO-based polymer bonded explosive.

Summary: The use of incandescent lamps for artificially inducing flowering in dragon fruit cultivation leads to high electricity consumption, while low-power CFL bulbs are not widely used due to poor floral induction performance. The study introduced three improved CFL lamps with emission spectra focused on red and far-red regions, with one prototype showing better performance compared to incandescent lamps in terms of growth indicators and fruit yield in field experiments. Commercialization of the improved CFL lamp demonstrates the potential of CFL lamps in floral stimulation of other crops and plants while reducing electricity burden in dragon fruit growing areas.
