Summary: This scoping review aims to summarize the peer-reviewed literature on civil society's counteractions to tobacco industry interference (TII) and assess their effectiveness. The study found that civil society employs various strategies, such as exposing industry conduct, accessing decision-makers, generating and using evidence, filing complaints or taking legal action, and mobilizing coalitions and supporters, to counter TII. However, the impact of these counteractions remains largely understudied.

Summary: This study investigates the impacts of global oil market shocks on local corn prices in several Sub-Saharan African countries using structural vector autoregressive models. The findings reveal that African corn markets are less sensitive to oil-specific demand shocks but can experience price increases due to disruptions in global oil supply. Political events related to the oil market also have the potential to significantly influence corn prices in these countries.

Summary: Community science provides abundant and inexpensive information on biodiversity, but analyzing the data poses challenges for formal biodiversity research. This study explored the use of community science data in peer-reviewed biodiversity literature, revealing variations in use among taxonomic groups and geographic regions. The results suggest that community science data are underutilized for research on threatened species and limited in their scope. There is great potential to better utilize existing datasets and bridge the gaps between biodiversity data and conservation research and practice.

Summary: The study comprehensively analyzed the spatial and temporal variation in the wind regime of the Sahara Desert, revealing its impact on global atmospheric changes and the intensity of regional aeolian activities. The study found an overall decreasing trend in wind speed across the Sahara Desert, with seasonal differences in wind direction. The western and northern regions of the desert exhibited the highest drift potential.

Summary: Antibiotic resistant Enterobacterales pose a growing threat to Sub-Saharan Africa, contributing to delayed treatment and limited options for infections. Factors such as lack of water and sanitation facilities, unregulated antibiotic use, and malnutrition contribute to high rates of antibiotic resistance in the region. Monitoring drug resistant infections and practicing antibiotic stewardship are crucial to preserve antibiotic efficacy for the future.

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the pooled uptake of cervical cancer screening and identify its predictors in Sub-Saharan Africa through a systematic review and meta-analysis. The results indicated a low uptake of cervical cancer screening in the region, influenced by factors such as knowledge level, age, HIV status, and educational level. Targeted health promotion programs are required to improve cervical cancer screening uptake in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Summary: Smokeless tobacco (SLT) use is prevalent in adults aged 15 and above in Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan, with marked disparities among different population groups. Exposure to pro-SLT marketing is associated with higher SLT use, highlighting the importance of addressing all forms of tobacco product use in tobacco control strategies.

Summary: The prevalence of current tobacco use and secondhand smoke exposure among older adults in India suggest the need for targeted interventions to address associated social and demographic factors. Men, younger age groups, rural residents, lower education levels, lower wealth index, and lower knowledge were found to be independently associated with both current tobacco use and secondhand smoke exposure.
