Summary: Prolonged oxygen therapy in preterm infants can lead to cognitive impairment. Galantamine, an FDA approved treatment for Alzheimer's disease, has shown potential in reducing hyperoxia-induced brain injury and improving learning and memory in neonatal mice. It can reduce neurodegeneration, increase acetyl choline levels, suppress inflammation, and improve neurobehavioral outcomes.

Summary: In acute lung injury, inflammatory markers are significantly elevated in cholinergic-deficient mice compared to wild-type, but treatment with the selective alpha 7 nicotinic receptor agonist PNU 282987 can restore the response and reduce lung inflammation. The anti-inflammatory effects of the lung cholinergic system are associated with an increase in the level of alpha 7 nicotinic receptors, suggesting potential clinical applications for treating acute lung injury.

Summary: This study investigated the role of non-neuronal cholinergic system in osteoarthritis (OA). The results showed that the cholinergic system, through alpha 7nAchR, can counteract the effects of inflammation on osteoblasts. Deletion of alpha 7nAchR may limit cartilage degradation in age-related OA. Therefore, enhancing the cholinergic system could be a potential therapeutic target, although it may depend on CHRFAM7A expression.

Summary: The study found that Lycopus lucidus Turcz (LLT) has a beneficial effect on dermatitis by inhibiting infiltration of inflammatory cells in skin tissue and suppressing the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines. LLT also showed anti-inflammatory properties in both keratinocyte and macrophage cell models. Ultimately, LLT may be a promising candidate for the treatment of inflammatory dermatitis.
