This study evaluates the bone-healing patterns on the surface of titanium implants at the cortical and marrow compartments of bicortically-installed implants in the diaphysis and metaphysis of rabbit tibiae. In 27 New Zealand rabbits, two implants, one for each macro-design and with equal resorbable blasted media (RBM) implant surfaces, were randomly implanted in the diaphysis or metaphysis of each tibia. The flaps were sutured to allow submerged healing. The animals were sacrificed after two, four, or eight weeks, with nine weeks used for the period of healing. Ground sections were prepared and analyzed. No statistically significant differences were found between the two groups for newly formed bone in contact with the implant surface after two, four, and eight weeks of healing. Bone apposition in the marrow compartment was slightly higher in the diaphysis compared to metaphysis regions across healing stages. Despite the limitations of the present study, it can be concluded that new bone apposition was better than average in the cortical compartment as compared to the marrow compartments. Bone morphometry and density may affect bone apposition onto the implant surface. The apposition rates were slightly better at both the cortical and marrow compartments in diaphysis as compared to metaphysis sites. The new bone formation at the marrow compartment showed slightly better increasing values at diaphysis compared to metaphysis implantation sites.

Smile esthetic evaluation of mucogingival reconstructive surgery

Roberto Rotundo, Luigi Genzano, Michele Nieri, Ugo Covani, David Penarrocha-Oltra, Miguel Penarrocha-Diago

Summary: This study aimed to compare the smile esthetic impact of root coverage procedures using the Coronally Advanced Flap (CAF) either with or without the adjunct of a collagen matrix (CMX). The results showed that after 12 months of treatment, there was no significant difference in smile esthetic appearance between the CAF + CMX group and the CAF alone group. The adjunct of a collagen matrix did not show a distinct impact on smile esthetics.

Summary: The mean healing rate of teeth after endodontic microsurgery was 81%, with significantly higher healing rate in anterior teeth compared to molars. Larger lesions were associated with lower healing rate, while other factors such as patient age, sex, presence of post, type of tooth, and restoration did not significantly impact the outcome.

Facial alveolar bone thickness and modifying factors of anterior maxillary teeth: a systematic review and meta-analysis of cone-beam computed tomography studies

Summary: The thickness of the facial alveolar bone (FAB) varies along the apico-coronal dimensions, with factors like age, gender, and gingival phenotype influencing FAB thickness. Asian populations show the lowest FAB thickness values. The distance from CEJ to the bone crest is consistent among all teeth analyzed.

Is Healing of Periapical Surgery Influenced by Endoscopic Findings Detected on the Cut Root Surface?

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the association between endoscopic findings and healing one year after periapical surgery. The study found that roots with cracks had a higher failure rate, although statistical significance was not reached. Other endoscopic findings, patient age and gender, and the type of tooth did not influence healing.

Summary: The study compared the diagnostic outcomes of conventional radiographs and CBCT in apical lesions, finding that conventional radiographs had excellent specificity but poor sensitivity, while CBCT had advantages in specific cases, such as prioritizing patient-specific and indication-oriented criteria over therapeutic goals.

BMP-2 Enhances Osteogenic Differentiation of Human Adipose-Derived and Dental Pulp Stem Cells in 2D and 3D In Vitro Models

Summary: Bone tissue engineering provides an alternative approach for bone regeneration therapies. In this study, a model for in vitro osteogenic differentiation based on mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) was developed to analyze the influence of culture media and cell origin on the efficiency of the process. The results showed that the osteogenic marker levels were influenced by the culture medium and the cell origin used, with higher levels observed when hADSCs were cultured with medium supplemented with BMP-2. Additionally, the 3D culture environment was suitable for cell survival and osteogenic induction.

Summary: Evidence suggests that cannabinoid agonists inhibit relevant aspects of lung cancer, such as proliferation and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT). The effects of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) on lung cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) and normal fibroblasts (NFs) were evaluated in this study. The results demonstrate the potential of cannabinoid agonists for the treatment of lung cancer and their effects on CAFs in relation to cancer cells.

Human Dental Pulp Stem Cells Differentiate into Cementoid-Like-Secreting Cells on Decellularized Teeth Scaffolds

Manuel Mata, Santiago Peydro, Jose Javier Martin de Llano, Maria Sancho-Tello, Carmen Carda

Summary: Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease that can lead to tooth loss. This study examined the role of surface microtopography in the differentiation of human dental pulp stem cells into cementoid-like secreting cells. The results showed that the cells cultured on dentin surfaces exhibited an odontoblastic phenotype, while cells cultured on cementum surfaces generated a well-organized tissue consisting of secretory cells and dense fibrous connective tissue.
