Summary: This study investigated the effect of nitrogen (N) addition on fine root decomposition in a Pinus massoniana plantation. The results showed that N addition promoted the decomposition of fine roots in the early stage, but inhibited it in the late stage. The decomposition rates of higher-order fine roots were faster than lower-order fine roots. N addition also affected the release of lignin, carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus, as well as the activities of lignin-degrading enzyme.

Summary: Pterostilbene (PTE) has shown anti-tumor effects on glioma cells by inhibiting proliferation, inducing apoptosis, and inhibiting migration through the generation of ROS and reduction of MMP. Activation of ERK 1/2 and JNK signaling pathways contribute to glioma cell apoptosis induced by PTE, which can be attenuated by specific inhibitors of these pathways.

Summary: Upregulation and aggregation of a-synuclein is a key factor in Parkinson's disease, and mitochondrial dysfunction is believed to be a contributing factor. The drug nitazoxanide has been found to enhance mitochondrial function and autophagy. This study demonstrates that nitazoxanide activates cellular autophagy and clears a-synuclein aggregates through mitochondrial uncoupling, AMPK activation, and JNK activation.

Summary: Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) is a harmful pathogen that causes large-scale infections and economic losses in the cattle industry. This study evaluated the antiviral activities of berbamine hydrochloride (BBH) against BVDV. The results showed that BBH had an inhibitory effect on BVDV, specifically in the viral attachment and release stages. Furthermore, BBH inhibited BVDV-induced autophagy in cells, which contributed to its inhibitory effect against BVDV infection.

Summary: This study revealed that TTK protein kinase promotes TMZ resistance in GBM cells by inducing autophagy both in vitro and in vivo. TTK inhibitors significantly inhibited GBM cell proliferation and enhanced the growth-suppressive effect of TMZ. Furthermore, blocking TTK could suppress the autophagy process in GBM cells.

Summary: The study identified Platycodon grandiflorus and its component platycodin D as inhibitors of autophagy in glioblastoma multiforme cells. The mechanism involves preventing lysosomal degradation and disrupting cholesterol trafficking, leading to cell death. These findings suggest potential for platycodin D as an anti-GBM drug.

Summary: The study demonstrates that knocking out Atg5 in eosinophils results in a decrease in mature eosinophils, an increase in immature cells, and affects cell proliferation and differentiation. Additionally, Atg5-deficient eosinophils show enhanced degranulation and bacterial killing abilities, leading to better clearance of bacterial infections in vivo models.

Summary: Through TMT-based quantitative proteomic analysis, the study identified that abnormal E3 ligase MAEA was expressed in recurrent glioma samples. Bioinformatics analysis revealed that high expression of MAEA was correlated with glioma and GBM recurrence and poor prognosis. Functional studies demonstrated that MAEA promoted proliferation, invasion, stemness, and TMZ resistance in GBM cells. Mechanistically, MAEA targeted PHD3 for degradation, thereby enhancing the stability of HIF-1 alpha and promoting the stemness and TMZ resistance through upregulating CD133. Knocking down MAEA inhibited GBM xenograft tumor growth in vivo. In conclusion, MAEA enhances the expression of HIF-1 alpha/CD133 through the degradation of PHD3 and promotes the malignant progression of GBM.

Summary: This study found that the upregulation of lipid-laden macrophage protein LRPPRC is associated with foam cell formation. Inhibiting LRPPRC can promote macrophage autophagy and inhibit foam cell formation. Therefore, regulating LRPPRC expression in macrophages may be a new strategy for treating atherosclerosis.

Summary: High levels of CDCA8 are significantly correlated with poor prognosis in high-grade glioma patients, as it promotes cell proliferation, migration, and inhibits apoptosis. The synergy between CDCA8 and E2F1 enhances tumor malignancy by facilitating proliferation and migration in glioma. This study provides potential therapeutic targets and prognostic biomarkers for malignant glioma treatment.

Summary: High expression of HA, HAS3, and CD44 in glioma tissues is negatively correlated with patient prognosis. Inhibiting HAS3 or blocking CD44 can suppress glioma cell proliferation through inhibiting autophagy and maintaining cell cycle arrest. The small molecule inhibitor 4-MU also shows efficacy in inhibiting glioma cell proliferation, presenting a potential strategy for glioma treatment.

Summary: Stroke, especially ischemic stroke, poses a significant social burden due to high rates of mortality and disability. Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) has been discovered to play a crucial role in regulating the progression of ischemic stroke, particularly through changes in expression related to hypoxia. By focusing on hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-related lncRNAs, researchers aim to uncover key regulatory mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets for post-ischemic brain injury and hypoxia.
