Summary: Selective breeding plays a vital role in the development of disease-resistant traits and high growth rates in flounder aquaculture. This study used a genome-wide association study (GWAS) to analyze viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus (VHSV) resistance in olive flounder. Significant single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and associated genes were identified, providing valuable information for breeding applications.

Summary: PoMaf1 is a global suppressor of RNA polymerase III-dependent transcription, potentially playing a crucial role in the immune response to viral infections in fish. It is expressed in all tissues, with highest levels in eye and muscle tissues. The transcript levels of PoMaf1 decrease during VHSV infection, and its disruption leads to increased VHSV glycoprotein mRNA levels, indicating its involvement in the immune response to VSHV infection.

Summary: This study determined the safe concentrations of orally administered saponin and chitosan and demonstrated the efficacy and safety of saponin and chitosan-based vaccines with inactivated viral haemorrhagic septicaemia virus (VHSV). Additional immunisation with a combination of saponin, chitosan, and IV enhanced protection against VHSV.

Summary: Olive flounder is a major cultured fish species in Asia, but mass mortality caused by various pathogens leads to significant economic losses. Protein expression patterns in the gills and spleens of olive flounder varied depending on infectious agents, indicating the need for tailored measures for disease prevention and treatment in farmed fish.

Summary: The study identified eleven TLR members in the genome of Japanese flounder, which were widely expressed in immune-related tissues and exhibited differential regulation following E.tarda infection. Additionally, syntenic and protein interaction network analysis revealed the interactions of these TLR genes with immune-related pathways.

Summary: This study identifies a specialized lymphoepithelial tissue called interbranchial lymphoid tissue (ILT) in fish species. The ILT's structural variation and mucosal immune functions are not well-known. The researchers found Zap-70(+) cell aggregates in the ILT, confirming its location in the epithelium covering the bottom of the interbranchial cleft. The ILT was found to be an important site for local T cell-mediated immunity in flounder's gills.

Summary: This study provides insights into the mechanisms of secretion and transepithelial transport of SIgM in the gut of flounder. The results suggest that fpIgR plays a crucial role in the transcytosis of polymeric IgM in a basolateral-to-apical manner in MDCK cells. These findings contribute to a better understanding of mucosal immune mechanisms in teleosts.

Summary: The Ly-6 superfamily, particularly the member Ly-6D, plays a critical role in the innate immunity of teleost fish. PoLy-6D exhibits induced expression patterns in response to different microbial infections and is involved in host clearance of pathogens by potentially serving as a complement regulator. These findings provide new insights into the regulation mechanism of the complement system and emphasize the importance of Ly-6D products for controlling pathogen infections in teleost.

Summary: This study demonstrated that vaccination with live HIRRV under temperature-controlled conditions can enhance protective immunity in flounder against HIRRV, and maintaining the fish at 20 degrees C for a prolonged period allows them to eliminate the virus completely and acquire protective immunity. Additionally, higher levels of specific antibodies were detected post re-challenge compared with the first peak level after initial infection, indicating a robust immune response.

Summary: The study demonstrates the crucial role of PoMCSF in the immune defense system of Japanese flounder. PoMCSF enhances the fish's resistance against pathogens by regulating the expression of immune-related genes and promoting macrophage activity, particularly in combating Edwardsiella piscicida infections. The effectiveness of PoMCSF is dependent on its receptor, PoMCSFR, highlighting the importance of the MCSF-MCSFR relationship in teleost immunity.
