Summary: The study compared the responses of dimorphic seeds of Suaeda salsa, finding that brown seeds had higher germination rates over a wider range of temperatures, while black seeds showed increasing germination rates with higher temperatures. Brown seeds exhibited higher germination rates and speeds under the same salt conditions, but black seeds had higher recovery germination rates after transfer to deionized water.

Summary: Camelina is an oilseed crop with agronomic and qualitative characteristics that make it suitable for multiple bio-based applications. This study compared six camelina cultivars in terms of their agronomic characteristics, oil composition, and specialized metabolites content and composition. The results showed that different cultivars have different characteristics and that growing conditions can influence the content of specialized metabolites.

Summary: This study assessed the variation in seed germination among different populations of two desert halophytes and examined the correlation between seed fresh weight and germination. The results showed that the provenance had a significant impact on the germination of Suaeda vermiculata seeds, while the impact was less clear for Arthrocnemum macrostachyum. Additionally, a lower soil pH promoted seed germination.

Summary: This study investigated the sterilization and culture conditions for Suaeda aralocaspica, a halophyte plant. By treating the seeds with ethanol and sodium hypochlorite or mercury chloride, the researchers obtained the optimal sterilization effect. The germination and seedling performance of S. aralocaspica varied under different culture conditions.

Summary: This study analyzed seeds from selected Mertensia species for their rich GLA content and minor functional compounds, revealing that Mertensia sibirica and Mertensia maritima spp. asiatica had the highest levels of gamma-linolenic acid. Mertensia sibirica also showed the greatest levels of sterols, phenolics, and tocopherols, making it a potential new source of GLA-rich oils for pharmaceutical and food industries.

Summary: Perilla, a traditional medicinal and oilseed crop in Asia, contains high levels of polyunsaturated alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) in its seeds. The FAD gene family in perilla has been systematically characterized, with 42 PfFADs identified in the genome. The PfFADs exhibit diverse expression patterns and play important roles in the biosynthesis of ALA.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of increasing dietary chia seeds on lamb growth performance and fatty acid profile in the meat. The results showed that adding chia seeds did not increase meat production or other biometric parameters, but it did modify the fatty acid composition in the Longissimus thoracis muscle.

Summary: Soil salinization is a growing agricultural issue worldwide, causing negative effects on crop productivity and quality. Suaeda liaotungensis is a salt-tolerant plant that produces dimorphic seeds to adapt to saline environments. However, there is a lack of information on the physiological characteristics, seed germination, and seedling establishment of dimorphic seeds in S. liaotungensis under salt stress.

Summary: This study identified three PoFAD genes, PoFAD2, PoFAD6, and PoFAD3, involved in ALA biosynthesis pathway in Paeonia ostii var. lishizhenii. PoFAD2 and PoFAD6 were found to catalyze linoleic acid synthesis, while PoFAD3 had the ability to produce ALA. This has significant theoretical and practical implications for breeding new tree peony varieties for human health and nutrition supplement.
