Summary: This study aimed to determine if plasma menthol glucuronide (MG) concentrations can predict changes in subjective drug effects, urges to smoke, and heart rate following concurrent inhaled menthol and intravenous nicotine. The results showed that changes in plasma MG concentrations were proportional to menthol concentration in e-liquids, and were predictive of cooling effect in menthol smokers without active nicotine infusion.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of varying irrigation volume and placement on drip-irrigated peppermint. Results showed that moderate water deficit did not negatively affect the growth of peppermint, but significantly increased essential oil yield and ratio. Therefore, it is recommended to apply moderate water deficit with PRD70 and PRD55 techniques for significant water-saving and reasonable yield.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of acute exposure to menthol on zebrafish embryos and found that it led to decreased hatching rate, heart rate, and increased malformations and mortality. At the molecular level, menthol exposure increased reactive oxygen species and antioxidant enzyme activity, as well as altered energy metabolism and mitochondrial function. At the behavioral level, menthol-treated larvae exhibited anxiety-like behavior. Additionally, there were decreases in dopaminergic neurons and acetylcholinesterase activity, indicating neuro-behavioral impairment.

Summary: This study assessed the physiological and biochemical responses of blessed thistle and peppermint to salinity stress. Salinity significantly increased malondialdehyde and proline accumulation in both species, while affecting chlorophyll content to a lesser extent. Blessed thistle and peppermint exhibited different strategies in response to salinity, with K+/Na+ and Ca2+/Na+ ratios significantly altered under high salt concentration.

Summary: Endophytic bacteria, which colonize plants and derive nutrients from the host, have a mutualistic relationship with the host and play a critical role in promoting host growth and modulating abiotic stress. L-glutamic acid enhances Streptomyces globisporus population buildup in plants but its effects on abiotic stresses such as salinity and drought have not been investigated. This study demonstrated that L-glutamic acid promotes plant growth, increases bacteria population density, and reduces damage caused by salinity stress.

Summary: Inducing the plant immune system to combat pathogens is an eco-friendly strategy and a crucial aspect of disease management. Tomato serves as a suitable model for studying disease resistance and mechanisms, with recent research highlighting potential targets for enhancing disease resistance. Various types of stimulators in tomatoes and their impact on defense genes are explored, with biological stimulators showing promising results in reducing soil-borne pathogens. Additionally, investigations into the regulation of ERF transcription factor gene expression suggest its critical role in inducing systemic resistance against diseases in Solanaceae plants.
