Summary: Epilepsy and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are closely connected and co-occur in both children and adults, causing significant psychosocial and quality of life effects. The adverse effects of some anti-seizure medications can worsen symptoms of ADHD, while some ADHD medications may increase seizure risk. Proper diagnosis and treatment can help improve or prevent complications associated with these conditions.

Summary: The current study used the infant sibling design to investigate whether proband traits of autism and ADHD can provide information about their infant siblings' temperament. Parent ratings of autistic traits and ADHD traits were used in older siblings diagnosed with autism, and their infant siblings' temperament traits at 9 months of age were examined. Specific associations were found across siblings, with proband autistic traits related to low levels of approach in infant siblings, and proband ADHD traits related to high levels of infant activity. These findings suggest that inherited liability may influence early emerging behaviors in infant siblings.

Summary: ADHD and Gaming Disorder coexistence is a topic of growing attention, with the diagnosis criteria still debated. Playing electronic games activates reward-related neural circuits, potentially leading to addiction. This review provides an overview of the ADHD and Gaming Disorder comorbidity, discussing implications for treatment.

Summary: Research indicates that higher levels of hyperactivity/impulsivity and inattention are more common in young, male dogs who spend more time alone at home. Additionally, different breeds of dogs show genetic differences in hyperactivity/impulsivity and inattention. Hyperactivity/impulsivity and inattention in dogs often co-occur with compulsive behavior, aggressiveness, and fearfulness.

Summary: This pilot study compared reported symptoms of attention-deficit/hyperactivity in adults with Fabry disease with normative control data, finding a higher prevalence of symptoms in Fabry disease patients. The study suggests that attention difficulties in Fabry disease patients are not solely explained by ADHD. Patients reporting symptoms were also more likely to report difficulties in adaptive functioning.

Summary: Inattention is a key symptom of ADHD, but the mechanisms underlying it are unclear. More specific approaches are needed to link disruptions in cognitive performance with ADHD behaviors. A pilot study found that even typically developing children did not maximally extract and combine information to maximize rewards in a cognitive task targeting attention selection mechanisms.

Summary: Evidence suggests a link between maternal obesity during pregnancy and offspring attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. This study aimed to examine the association between maternal pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) and child hyperactivity-inattention symptoms (HIS) at different ages. The results showed that maternal pre-pregnancy obesity was associated with increased likelihood of a high HIS trajectory in children from 3 to 8 years old, while pre-pregnancy overweight was not significantly associated.

Summary: Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common childhood psychiatric disorder that may be caused by genetic and environmental factors. ADHD is characterized by attention problems, impulsivity, and excessive activity, and can lead to symptoms such as anxiety and behavioral disorders. These symptoms have negative impacts on individuals, families, and communities, but the potential use of PI3K and its modulators could be a promising treatment for ADHD.

Summary: Schizophrenia is associated with impaired attentional processing, and current antipsychotics often fail to address this issue. The orexin/hypocretin receptors, which are expressed in attention-relevant cortical regions, could be a potential target for treating schizophrenia-associated attentional dysfunction.

Summary: This study examined the diagnostic indicators, clinical characteristics, and functional impairment associated with adult ADHD using electronic medical records and self-report measures. The results showed a significant difference in prevalence of ADHD between self-report screening and medical records. ADHD was found to contribute to functional impairment even when controlling for other psychiatric comorbidities.

Summary: Treatment outcomes for individuals with substance use disorders are variable and may require individualized approaches. Machine-learning methods like connectome-based predictive modeling can be used to explore the neural mechanisms of treatment outcomes. This study replicated and extended previous work by testing the predictive ability of neural networks for cocaine and cannabis abstinence in independent samples, and identified novel networks for cannabis abstinence. Results showed substance specificity in neural predictors of abstinence, and identified potential treatment targets for cannabis use disorder.

Summary: This study examined three potential endophenotypes for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD): working memory function, response inhibition, and reaction time variability. The results showed that higher genetic risk for ADHD was associated with higher ADHD traits, as well as poorer working memory performance and increased reaction time variability. Lower working memory performance, poorer response inhibition, and increased reaction time variability were associated with more pronounced ADHD traits. Working memory and reaction time variability partially mediated the relationship between genetic risk for ADHD and ADHD traits, explaining 14% and 16% of the association, respectively.

Summary: The study compared thiol/disulfide homeostasis parameters and ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) levels between children with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and healthy children. Results showed that children with IBS had impaired thiol/disulfide homeostasis and increased IMA levels, suggesting these may be etiological factors in the development of IBS.

Summary: The global concern and goal is to combat SARS-CoV-2 in the face of the global health crisis. This study aimed to model the progression of SARS-CoV-2 infectious disease using Bayesian multi-state model approaches with consideration of risk factors, finding that models with Weibull distributed baseline hazard function were more appropriate when accounting for risk factors and antiviral treatment.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of attitudes on technology addiction behavior in 382 adolescents, finding that gender and duration of technology use moderate the mediation effect of attitudes on awareness and behavior in technology addiction. Males and adolescents who use technology for long hours per day are more likely to exhibit the mediation effect of attitudes on awareness and behavior. In females, higher attitude scores lead to increased addictive behavior, while in males, higher attitude scores also lead to increased addictive behavior.
