Summary: Uniaxial hot compression experiments were conducted to understand the dynamic recrystallization behavior of as-cast AZ12 magnesium alloy during deformation. The experiments involved thermal compression with a true strain of 50% at temperatures ranging from 200 to 400 degrees C and strain rates of 0.001 to 1 s-1. A dynamic recrystallization (DRX) kinetic model was established for AZ12 magnesium alloy and its accuracy was verified. The model was used to predict the volume fraction of the sheet obtained through rolling under a consistent total reduction of 50%, and the predicted results showed good agreement with the experimental results.

Summary: The effects of original orientations on the dynamic recrystallization behaviors of a hot-rolled Mg-1.0wt% Ca plate were investigated. It was found that dynamic recrystallization occurred more easily in the normal direction sample at the same temperature. As the temperature increased, the area fraction and size of the dynamic recrystallized grains improved faster in the rolling direction sample. The Mg-1.0wt%Ca alloy significantly postponed both the continuous and discontinuous dynamic recrystallization processes compared to commercial Mg alloys.

Summary: Rotating backward extrusion (RBE) is a severe plastic deformation (SPD) method used to produce cylindrical components with very large strain by a single pass. The cup-shaped sample formed by RBE exhibited a typical gradient microstructure, with the average grain size decreasing along the radial direction due to different strains and strain rates in different regions. The center region showed the highest deformation and the edge region exhibited the lowest deformation in the RBEed sample.

Summary: The formation conditions and influence mechanisms of the heterogeneous bimodal microstructure of Mg-9.8Gd-3.5Y-2.0Zn-0.4Zr alloy were systematically studied. It was found that specific deformation conditions can lead to the formation of a heterogeneous bimodal microstructure composed of fine recrystallized grains and coarsely deformed grains. Additionally, the deformation parameters were found to have a strong influence on the long-period stacking order phase and grain boundary segregation.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the dynamic recrystallization behavior of as-cast AZ91 magnesium alloy under hot compression deformation at 350 degrees C. The results show that multiple DRX mechanisms, including twinning, grain boundary bulging, and particle-stimulated nucleation, are observed at 350 degrees C. Continuous DRX is the dominant mechanism at this temperature. Compared to hot compression at 300 degrees C, the DRX grain size and volume fraction increase after hot compression at 350 degrees C.

Summary: This study investigates the variation in LPSO structures, dynamic recrystallization, and mechanical performance of Mg89Y4Zn2Li5 alloys fabricated at different extrusion speeds and die angles. It is found that the block 18R LPSO structures elongate while the lamellar 14H LPSO structures dissolve. The hot-extruded alloys exhibit a full DRX microstructure, and the DRX grain size decreases with decreasing extrusion speed and die angle. The Mg89Y4Zn2Li5 alloy achieves an excellent strength-ductility balance at a low extrusion speed and small die angle.

Summary: Isothermal hot compression tests were conducted to investigate the dynamic recrystallization mechanism of Ti-6554 alloy during high-temperature deformation. The developed constitutive equation based on dynamic recrystallization showed good predictability for the flow stress of Ti-6554 alloy. High temperature and low strain rate promoted the development of dynamic recrystallization, and the dynamic recrystallization mechanism was more dependent on strain rate.

Summary: In this study, the dynamic precipitation (DP) of Mg17Al12 phase during the deformation of an Mg-Al-Zn-RE alloy was investigated. The effects of temperature and strain rate on the volume fraction, number density, and average size of Mg17Al12 precipitates were studied. Phenomenological models linking the precipitation parameters with deformation conditions were established and validated. The pinning effect of DP on grain growth and the influence of temperature on DRXed grain size were also discussed. The results provide insights into the understanding of microstructural evolution in the Mg-Al-Zn-RE alloy.

Summary: The present study investigates the hot deformation of 35%SiCp/2024Al composite using Gleeble-1500D thermo-mechanical simulators. It is found that the flow stress, microstructure evolution, and deformation mechanism are sensitive to deformation parameters, which can be represented by the Zener-Hollomon parameter (Z) in the hyperbolic sine equation. The softening mechanism, degree of dynamic recrystallization, average grain size, size of precipitates, dislocation density, and nucleation mechanism of dynamic recrystallization are influenced by the Z parameter, and the interaction laws are obtained through analysis.

Summary: This study investigated the dynamic recrystallization behaviors and grain evolution mechanisms of SAE 5137H steel during hot forming. It was found that the dynamic recrystallization volume fraction and grain size increase with temperature and decrease with strain rate. Dynamic recrystallization grains nucleate at the initial grain boundaries and grow by consuming the matrix grains as strain increases. The developed finite element model successfully describes the microstructure evolution in the hot deformation process.

Summary: The effects of pre-twinning on the microstructure and dynamic compression properties of non-aged and artificially aged Mg-Y-Nd-Gd-Zr alloys were investigated. Pre-deformation in the T3 alloy generated high-density dislocations and deformation twins, while artificial aging in the T8 alloy resulted in a decrease in dislocation density and the appearance of precipitates. Evaluation of dynamic compression properties showed that the T8 alloy had a higher compressive yield strength compared to the T61 alloy. However, their ultimate compressive strengths were similar due to the synergistic effect between dislocations, twin boundaries, and precipitates. These findings suggest that the pre-twinning approach can improve the strength of magnesium alloys.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of Re and Ta interactions on the precipitation of the TCP phase in experimental alloys under long-term thermal exposure. The study finds that microstructure segregation is not fully eliminated even with standard heat treatment, and the interaction between Re and Ta enhances the formation of the TCP phase. Thermodynamic calculations and first-principles analysis reveal that Re significantly improves the driving force of TCP phase precipitation. The study also observes a phase transition from the sigma-phase to the P-phase, with Ni playing a crucial role in the diffusion process.

Summary: The microstructures and corrosion resistance of TC11 components were significantly improved using a high-power, high-speed laser metal deposition (LMD) process and subsequent post-heat treatment, with greater improvements observed in the deposition direction. The significant improvement of corrosion resistance in the deposition direction is mainly due to the weakening of the charged galvanic corrosion effect between the non-interlayer zone and interlayer zone.

Summary: In this study, the microstructures and mechanical properties of interphase precipitation strengthening micro-alloyed steels were investigated. The addition of Cr was found to increase the yield strength without significant decrease of ductility. Thermodynamics analysis revealed that the addition of Cr led to grain refinement and decrease of sheet spacing of nanoprecipitates. Calculations showed that the decrease of interphase-precipitated carbides sheet spacing and the refinement of grain size were responsible for the strength enhancement of Cr microalloyed steel.

Summary: In this study, bioinspired web-liked multiphase composites were successfully constructed using boron-modified polysilazane polymer. The composites consisted of long TiB nanowires as 'web' and hybrid TiC and Ti3Si particles as 'nodes'. The enhanced strength of these composites was attributed to the synergistic load transfer of the hybrid reinforcements. This study provides a promising design approach for developing high-performance composites with high reinforcement content, utilizing polymer instead of traditional ceramic powder.
