Summary: This paper systematically studies the Mode III crack-tip solution for a semi-infinite crack located in a straight spring interface in an infinite linear elastic isotropic solid. A new analytic expression is provided for this crack-tip solution in the form of a double asymptotic series. The series of shadow terms associated with a main term is found to be infinite, and all shadow terms contain logarithmic terms. The present results have important implications for numerical modeling and benchmark testing of interface cracks.

Summary: We applied machine-learning and cross-correlation techniques to enhance the detectability of seismic events near Musreau Lake, Alberta, induced by wastewater disposal. Our study reveals the presence of en echelon strike-slip faults with a preferred N-S orientation that can be easily triggered by only 0.6 MPa of overpressure. Earthquake activity occurs in bursts, with events starting from the southern end and progressing northwards along the largest fault. We also identified smaller faults that contribute to the seismic activity. Our findings suggest that pore pressure plays a crucial role in triggering these earthquakes. Analysis of a statistical model predicts that the next largest event will be approximately M-L 4.3, while the longest fault could potentially produce earthquakes up to M-w 5.3.

Summary: Holes and defects in rock materials have a significant impact on their mechanical properties and failure mechanism. Cracks often appear in the form of flat ellipses in natural rock mass. Numerical simulation results show that as the ratio of long to short axes of the elliptical fracture increases, the strength and elastic modulus of the rock decrease, the Poisson's ratio increases, and the number of micro-cracks in the rock decreases.

Summary: An additional equation is proposed in this paper to determine all critical fracture stresses based on mechanical test data, in conjunction with the Stress Intensity Factor. By using this equation along with the stress intensity factor, results closely matching experimental data were achieved in test specimens with cracks and holes.

Summary: Several studies have indicated that fatigue crack growth is influenced by elastic-plastic strains and stresses localized near the crack tip. The distribution of stress and strain ahead of the crack tip is crucial in crack growth analysis of structural components. While numerical analysis methods can be used to compute local stresses and strains, they are costly and labor-intensive in engineering applications. Therefore, a new modeling framework based on approximation has been developed to calculate elastic-plastic stresses and strains ahead of a stationary crack tip, which has been verified through numerical finite element analysis data.

Summary: In this paper, the effect of the polycrystalline microstructure on crack-tip opening displacement and crack closure is investigated. It is found that the crack opening stress and cyclic crack-tip opening displacement are significantly influenced by the local grain structure, and the differences in the cyclic crack opening displacement are attributed to the asymmetric plastic strain fields in the plastic wake behind the crack-tip of the microstructure-based model.

Summary: This paper addresses the problem of two collinear cracks in an orthotropic solid under thermal and mechanical loads. The analytical solutions to physical quantities and fracture parameters are obtained using the improved partially conductive crack model. It is found that the thermal resistance and proposed coefficient have a significant influence on the stress intensity factors.

Summary: In this study, an analytical symplectic solution method for three-dimensional planar and axial dynamic crack problems is proposed. A new crack-tip element is constructed using the existing solutions of two-dimensional crack problems, and the recently developed integrations scheme is further enhanced. By employing a precise time-domain expanding algorithm and a series expansion scheme, the dynamic problem is transformed into a series of quasi-static elastic problems. The developed method has been demonstrated through numerical examples, showing that it can calculate the time-dependent stress intensity factors efficiently with comparable accuracy to the recently developed time integration scheme.

Summary: Calculating interacting stress intensity factors (SIFs) of multiple elliptical-holes and cracks is crucial for underground rock engineering. A new integral method has been proposed to calculate these SIFs under both far-field and surface stresses, showing higher accuracy and wider applicability compared to common methods. The study also analyzes the influence of loads and geometries on interacting SIFs through computational examples.
