Synthesis, spectroscopic characterization and in vitro cytotoxic as well as docking studies of cis-diammine platinum(II) complexes of thiones

Ten cisplatin-derived platinum(II) complexes of thiones having the general formula, cis-[Pt(NH3)(2)(Thione)(2)] (NO3)(2) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and NMR (H-1 & C-13) methods. The spectroscopic data is in agreement with the coordination of thiones to platinum(II). The in vitro cytotoxic properties of all these complexes have been investigated against three human cancer cell lines, which include; A549 (lung carcinoma), MCF-7 (breast carcinoma) and HTC15 (colon cancer) and compared to the therapeutically used anticancer agents, cisplatin and carboplatin. The in vitro cytotoxicities in several cases are higher than carboplatin but in all cases are lower than cisplatin. Docking studies are carried out to understand the possible binding mode of interaction of these compounds with DNA.

Structural and energetic effect of the intramolecular hydrogen bonding in 4,6-dihaloresorcinols: ab initio calculation, vibrational spectroscopy, and molecular docking studies

Summary: The study demonstrates the significant role of intramolecular hydrogen bonding in determining the structural and electronic aspects of 4,6-dihaloresorcinols, with different halogen atoms affecting the extent of interaction. The results suggest that the anti configuration is greatly stabilized by the O-H…X-C bonding compared to the syn form, with difluoro derivative showing the smallest energy barriers in the series. Additionally, molecular docking analysis suggests the potential of the difluoro derivative as a candidate for treating specific skin inflammations.

Predictors of the ovarian superstimulatory response and oocyte collection in prepubertal heifers

Summary: The study aimed to explore the relationships between antral follicle counts, plasma AMH and FSH at the time of wave emergence in prepubertal calves, as well as the effects of age and duration of gonadotropin treatment on the ovarian superstimulatory response in pre-and post-pubertal heifers. The findings showed that prepubertal calves at 4 months old had a higher number of follicles and a higher proportion of fully expanded COC after gonadotropin treatment compared to those at 7 months old.

Dinuclear silver(I)- and gold(I)- N heterocyclic carbene complexes; Synthesis, structural characterizations, photoluminescence and theoretical studies

Summary: Here, a new family of cationic Ag(I)- and Au(I)- complexes ligated to a novel C boolean AND N donor N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand 3-methyl-1-(1-methyl-2-methylbenzoyl)imidazolin-2-ylidene, (1) was described. The synthesis of the complexes involved the use of compound 3-methyl-1-(1-methyl-2-methylbenzoyl)imidazolium hexafluorophosphate (1.HPF6) as a carbene precursor. The structures of the complexes were characterized using various analytical techniques and confirmed by X-ray crystallographic studies.

Chronic ergot exposure in adult bulls suppresses prolactin but minimally impacts results of typical breeding soundness exams

Summary: Canadian standards allow <= 3000 mg ergot alkaloids/kg cattle feed. A concentration-response relationship was hypothesized between ergot in feed and reductions in plasma prolactin, sperm motility, sperm function, and increase in sperm abnormalities. The study consisted of pre-treatment (12 weeks), treat-ment (9 weeks), and post-treatment periods (10 weeks). Adult bulls were fed 1113 (n = 8; low ergot group) or 2227 (n = 6; high) mg/kg of dry matter intake. Endpoints were measured every two weeks. Ejaculates were analyzed for sperm concentration, total and progressive motility, plasma membrane and acrosome integrity, mitochondrial membrane potential and sperm abnormalities. Data were analyzed by repeated measures MIXED PROC in SAS. Average outside ambient temperature during the pre-treatment, treatment, and post-treatment periods was-13 (-31 to 1), 0.5 (-18 to 19), and 21 (13-28) degrees C. Plasma prolactin decreased markedly during treatment (-52.4%; Experimental period p < 0.01). Rectal tem-perature increased during the treatment and post-treatment periods (EP p < 0.01) but was within the normal physiological range. Bull weight increased during the study (EP p < 0.01). Scrotal circumference in low ergot group increased during treatment (+0.8 cm; Tx*EP p = 0.05). Progressive motility in high ergot group decreased during treatment (-7%; Tx*EP p = 0.05), however, semen volume and sperm concentrations were unaffected (p >= 0.11). Live sperm with high and medium MMP decreased during treatment (-1.4 and-3.7%; EP p < 0.01). Results suggest that feeding <= 2227 mg ergot alkaloids/kg has only minor effects on adult bull semen quality.

Summary: The mechanism of how seminal nerve growth factor (NGF) induces ovulation in camelids has been investigated. It was found that NGF does not directly interact with hypothalamic neurons, but instead influences the secretion of gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) into the portal vessels of the pituitary gland.

Development of multi-objective cognitive radio network with energy harvesting for medical data transmission

Organophilic clays for efficient removal of eosin Y dye properties

Summary: In this study, organophilic local clay materials were prepared and investigated for the removal of an acidic dye. The results showed that the materials exhibited good removal efficiency at acidic pH, and the removal conditions could be customized by adjusting the solution pH or treating the organophilic solid.

Synthesis, Characterization, and Anticancer Activity of Phosphanegold(i) Complexes of 3-Thiosemicarbano-butan-2-one Oxime

Summary: In this study, four novel phosphanegold(I) complexes were synthesized and characterized. The complexes exhibited significant cytotoxic effects against different cancer cell lines, showing higher activity than cisplatin. Further analysis revealed that one of the complexes, complex 2, exerted potent anticancer activity against breast cancer cells through inducing oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and apoptosis.

Summary: The properties and structures of new liquid crystalline hydrogen bonded compounds were investigated through experimental and theoretical studies. The designed symmetrical dimers exhibited smectic mesophase with thermal stability depending on the length of the terminal side chain. The experimental findings were further supported by DFT calculations.

Comparative Analysis of Secure QKD Protocols for Small Satellites Constellation

Summary: Nowadays, with the increasing use of Internet for financial transactions and day-to-day activities, data security has become a prime concern. Quantum Internet provides a possible solution by using quantum key distribution for secure data transfer. The development of small satellites, such as CubeSat, opens up new possibilities for satellite communication and the application of quantum key distribution. This article reviews the basic concepts of quantum key distribution, its application in satellite communication using CubeSat, recent developments in satellite-based QKD systems, and a comparison of prominent QKD algorithms for satellite-based communication networks.

Effects of the temperature-humidity index on conception rates in Holstein heifers and cows receiving in vitro-produced Japanese Black cattle embryos

Summary: This study investigated the effect of temperature-humidity index (THI) on the conception rate (CR) in Holstein heifers and cows receiving in vitro-produced (IVP) Japanese Black cattle embryos. The results showed that THI and ambient temperature had a significant impact on the CR of cows, but not heifers. Temperature above 25 degrees Celsius and THI above 75 adversely affected the CR outcome in cows.

Unexpected structural preference with metallophilic Ag-Au contacts in silver(i)-N-heterocyclic carbene cluster; experimental and theoretical approach

Summary: A novel synthetic approach was used to synthesize a heterobimetallic cluster, and its structure was confirmed through experiments. It was found that Au(i) preferred to bind with the C-carbene donor. In addition, metal-metal interactions in the clusters were further investigated using computational methods, and one of the clusters was found to be more aromatic.

Dinuclear gold(I) complexes based on carbene and diphosphane ligands: bis[2-(dicyclohexylphosphano)ethyl]amine complex inhibits the proteasome activity, decreases stem cell markers and spheroid viability in lung cancer cells

Summary: Three new dinuclear gold(I) complexes (1-3) containing carbene and diphosphane ligands were synthesized and characterized. The complexes showed higher growth inhibition than cisplatin in different cancer cell lines. Mechanistic studies revealed that complex 3 induced apoptosis, generated reactive oxygen species, arrested the cell cycle, inhibited proteasome and NF-kB activity, and down-regulated lung cancer stem cell markers in A549 cells. Additionally, complex 3 exhibited superior activity in 3D models of lung cancer cells.

Indirect photolysis of cysteine and thiourea in the presence of metal ions in the aquatic environment

Summary: This work presents studies on the photochemical transformations of TU and Cys with the addition of Cu(II) or Fe(III) ions. The results show that the oxidation rate of the thiols increases significantly when Cu(II) or Fe(III) ions are added to the system. It has also been found that TU and Cys can form stable complex compounds with the studied metal ions. The oxidation rates of the thiols are found to depend on the radiation intensity and emission spectrum of the irradiation sources.

Summary: Novel binuclear heteroleptic copper(I) complexes based on mixed DPPE/thiocarbamoyl-pyrazoline ligands were synthesized and structurally characterized. These complexes exhibited similar structural behavior around the Copper(I) atoms and showed promising antimicrobial and anticancer activities.

Summary: The synthesis, structure, and DNA binding ability of three decavanadate complexes containing cationic organic moieties were reported. The complexes were characterized by various techniques and their solid-state structures were analyzed. The complexes showed interesting assembly patterns and exhibited moderately strong intercalative binding with CTDNA. Additionally, their micellization behavior in the presence of the surfactant CTAB was studied.

Synthesis, structure and electrochemical properties of tris (3-phenylpyrazolyl)borato zinc(II) adducts with o-semiquinonate ligands

Summary: The structure and electrochemical properties of zinc(II) complexes with a face-capping ligand have been investigated, revealing the effect of the ligand on bound semiquinonate (SQ) radicals. The substitution pattern of the SQ ring plays a crucial role in determining the fate of the bound SQ radicals. Additionally, the protective pocket formed by the ligand's phenyl substituents is unable to prevent decomposition of SQ radicals with minimal steric bulk, suggesting that substitution of the SQ ring is the main contributor to their stabilization.

Geometric control of Cu, Ni and Pd complexes in the solid state via intramolecular H-bonding interactions

Summary: In this article, the synthesis and characterization of copper, nickel, and palladium complexes bound by bidentate ligands derived from ortho-phenylenediamine are described. The complexes contain tunable H-bond donors and their crystal structures reveal intramolecular H-bonding interactions between the ligand scaffolds. Variations in the coordination sphere led to the isolation of the complexes in square-planar or twisted pseudo-tetrahedral geometries. Structural analysis showed that intramolecular H-bonding interactions can be altered by disrupting the bonds between countercations, solvent of crystallization, and ligand scaffold, resulting in changes in the geometry of the complexes. DFT calculations confirmed that Cu complexes prefer twisted geometries while Ni and Pd complexes favor square-planar geometries.

Summary: Chalcones are chemical precursors of flavonoids that have various biological properties. In this study, novel copper(II)-2'-hydroxy-4-benzyloxychalcone complexes were synthesized and evaluated for their antileishmanial, antiproliferative, and antiviral activities. The results demonstrated that these complexes showed potential effects against tumor cells, leishmania parasites, and SARS-CoV-2 virus. The study also highlighted the influence of ligand structure on biological activity.

BODIPY-ruthenium(II) polypyridyl complexes: Synthesis, computational, spectroscopic, electrochemical, and singlet oxygen studies

Summary: Three BODIPY-Ru(II) complexes were synthesized by coordinating [Ru(bpy)2Cl]+ complexes to BODIPY ligands. The spectroscopic and electrochemical properties of the complexes were characterized. The complexes exhibited intense absorption peaks due to the pi pi* transitions localized on the BODIPY core, and additional charge transfer transitions associated with the metal center. The complexes showed significant singlet oxygen generation and were able to induce photo-nicking of DNA.
