Summary: Pediatric SARS-CoV-2 seropositivity rates were found to be higher than previously reported in a major metropolitan region of the US. Even though a majority of the seropositive children were asymptomatic, a significant burden of COVID-19 infection was found in this population.

Summary: The study found that there is a low seroprevalence of CMV in the first trimester of pregnancy and a low incidence rate of primary infection. Risk factors associated with maternal CMV seropositivity include having one or more children, non-Caucasian ethnicity, and being born outside Canada and the USA.

Summary: Most studies on Hepatitis E Virus (HEV) are conducted in adults, and there is limited information about HEV seroprevalence, clinical disease manifestation, molecular epidemiology, and transmission patterns in children. In this study, conducted in Bogota, Colombia, we found a low HEV seroprevalence of 1.1% among scholar children aged 5-18 years. The presence of HEV-specific IgG antibodies was detected in three samples, and one sample showed IgM reactivity as well. However, no samples showed detectable levels of HEV RNA, suggesting that recent HEV exposure was unlikely.

Summary: The seroprevalence of mumps was higher in Thai children who received one or two doses of the vaccine compared to adolescents. The seroprevalence decreased over time after receiving two doses of the vaccine, suggesting the need for a booster dose in young adults.

Summary: High-intermediate endemicity for HBsAg and high endemicity for anti-HCV antibodies were found in three large regions of Kazakhstan. Blood transfusion was associated with anti-HCV seropositivity, but further epidemiological studies are needed to assess the effectiveness of preventive measures in healthcare settings.

Summary: The seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 among oligo/asymptomatic health care workers was found to be 5.5%, with risk factors including professional category of cleaning and male gender. Working at a dedicated COVID-19 unit was not an independent risk factor for seropositivity.

Summary: The study found that cardiovascular disease risk factors are prevalent among children and adolescents with Major Depressive Disorder, with over half of participants having at least two risk factors. Routine screening for cardiovascular risk factors may be warranted among youth with MDD, regardless of BMI, to prevent future cardiovascular disease.

Summary: This study investigated the seroprevalence and risk factors for Neospora caninum infection in Egyptian cattle. The results showed a seroprevalence rate of 28.89% and identified age, milking method, abortion history, repetition of estrus, and contact with dogs as significant risk factors. These findings suggest that N. caninum infection is an important factor contributing to abortion and economic losses in dairy cattle in Egypt. Therefore, the implementation of sanitary security and control programs is crucial.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the risk factors for sitting-induced tachycardia syndrome (STS) in children and adolescents. The results showed that reduced daily sleeping time was an independent risk factor for STS in children. This study highlights the importance of improving sleep habits to prevent STS.

Summary: The study found that RD patients had more severe illness, longer hospital stays, and were more frequently placed in residential facilities. Non-suicidal self-injurious behavior and adoption were the main predictors of RD. Clinical instruments were useful in identifying high-risk RD patients.

Summary: A substantial proportion of Chinese women planning pregnancy were susceptible to cytomegalovirus before conception, with low to moderate levels of immunoglobulin G seropositivity and significant geographic variation. Regional differences in seropositivity should be considered in the integration of cytomegalovirus antibody testing in preconception screening programs to develop prevention strategies targeting congenital infections.

Summary: This study explored the predictors of aggression among children and young people during psychiatric hospitalization and found that younger age, male gender, African descent, not living with both biological parents, positive history of psychiatric hospitalization, and prior externalizing behaviors were associated with higher odds of aggressive incidents. These findings have significant clinical and public health implications for improving prevention strategies for aggression in this vulnerable population.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the immune responses to the Shingrix vaccine in different patient populations and compare their vaccine reactions. The study will collect blood samples from 308 patients at seven different time points and analyze varicella zoster virus (VZV) and glycoprotein E (gE)-specific IgG and T cell responses. The primary outcome is to measure and compare the vaccine responses based on the type and degree of immunosuppression using antibody detection assays. Secondary outcomes include comparing the CD4(+) T cell responses and the severity of vaccination reactions among the three patient cohorts. The study also aims to find a potential association between VZV immune responses and clinical protection against shingles.

Summary: This study evaluated the use of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) in detecting microbial DNA in serum samples from pediatric patients with SIRS. The results suggest that NGS may be a valuable addition to infectious disease diagnostics in pediatric cases. However, further validation studies are needed before NGS can be considered a diagnostic method for pediatric patients.
