Summary: This article develops an efficient and convenient palladium-catalyzed carbonylation reaction for the synthesis of 2-cyano-N-acetamide and 2-cyanoacetate compounds. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions via a radical intermediate, suitable for late-stage functionalization. Gram-scale experiment was successfully performed with low catalyst loading, yielding the target product excellently. Additionally, this transformation can be carried out under atmospheric pressure and provides alternative routes to drug precursors.

Summary: In this study, a straightforward and efficient method for the selective synthesis of diesters using palladium-catalyzed direct carbonylation of di- or polyols with readily available alkenes was presented. The use of a specific palladium catalyst with the built-in-base ligand L16 allowed for esterification of all alcohols and a high n/iso ratio. The synthesized diesters were evaluated as potential plasticizers in PVC films through the measurement of the glass transition temperature (T-g) using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).

Summary: In this study, a palladium-catalyzed carbonylation reaction using CO2 and waste hydrosilane PMHS was developed for the synthesis of aurones from terminal aromatic alkynes and 2-iodophenols. Various terminal alkynes and substituted 2-iodophenols were efficiently converted to the corresponding aurones. The mechanistic investigation suggests that the silyl formate derived from CO2 and PMHS plays a crucial role in the carbonylation reaction.

Summary: A general and efficient protocol has been developed for the synthesis of acetamide-functionalized benzofurans using a palladium-catalyzed intramolecular cyclization and reductive aminocarbonylation reaction. The reaction proceeds in a single step, resulting in structure-defined benzofurans with acetamides as attractive functional groups. Various acetamide-functionalized benzofurans were obtained with moderate to good yields and good functional group compatibility using Mo(CO)6 as both CO source and reductant.

Summary: A method for the selective deoxygenative and alkoxy carbonylation of alcohols using boronic acids via palladium catalysis has been developed. The choice of activators determines the different selectivities. Carbodiimide activator promotes the formation of ketones through deoxygenative carbonylation, while azo activator leads to ester formation via alkoxy carbonylation. This study expands the substrate scope and allows for the use of base-sensitive boronic acid substrates. It contributes to the understanding and control of chemoselectivity in carbonylation chemistry.

Summary: The effects of ZrO2 and TiO2 on the oxidative cracking of degraded lignin and on the acid-base properties were investigated in Fe2O3 matrix. ZrO2-FeOX showed the greatest cracking into lower-molecular-weight products and improved reactivity of lattice oxygen. TiO2-FeOX and ZrO2-FeOX resulted in significantly higher phenol yield in the cracking of 2-methoxyphenol compared to Fe2O3.

Summary: The measurement of dipolar and J-couplings between Si-29 and O-17 isotopes was successfully carried out in this study using isotopic enrichment and a dedicated NMR probe. The results showed different coupling constants and bond lengths between siloxane O-17 nucleus and Q4 Si-29 nuclei compared to Q3 Si-29 nuclei, indicating the dependence of Si-29-O-17 coupling and Si-O bond length on the second neighbors of the Si atoms.

Summary: Hydroxyl groups of industrial grade lignins are esterified using palladium-catalyzed hydroesterification reactions with CO and olefins, fatty esters or 1,3-butadiene. This efficient and salt-free reaction allows the incorporation of aliphatic chains into lignin through ester linkage. The modified lignins with introduced aliphatic chains exhibit altered glass transition temperatures, dependent on the substitution degree of hydroxyl groups and the nature of the introduced chains. Additionally, this catalysis enables the introduction of new reactive functionalities, such as esters or unsaturations, from abundant and/or biobased reactants.
