Summary: This study evaluated the effects of thimerosal and ethylmercury on glioblastoma cells, and the results showed that they reduced cell viability and triggered cell death. Moreover, their effect on reducing the redox capability of tumor cells was better than temozolomide.

Summary: The study found that Thimerosal is toxic to human and animal cells at concentrations lower than 5 μg/ml, while it has effective antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi at a concentration of 100 μg/ml. This indicates the need for further research on the toxicity and antimicrobial effectiveness of Thimerosal to determine safer concentrations.

Summary: Although the molecular mechanisms of methylmercury toxicity are not fully understood, it affects protein modifications through various molecular pathways. There is limited information available on neurotoxicity caused by ethylmercury or thimerosal. More research is needed to better understand the pathways and potential neurotoxicity of these organomercurials, especially in relation to intrauterine and childhood exposure. The safety and effectiveness of mercury-containing thimerosal in vaccines, and its potential dose-response effects to the central nervous system, are still under debate.

Summary: This study evaluated the toxic effects of thimerosal, aluminum, and their combination on SH-SY5Y cells. The results showed that both thimerosal and aluminum can alter the oxidant/antioxidant status, cause DNA damage, and change dopamine and DAT levels. The changes were more pronounced in cells treated with the combined exposure to aluminum and thimerosal.

Summary: The analysis of organic mercury in polluted soils is important for assessing environmental risk. Two procedures were used to determine and correct for artificial mercury methylation, and the combination of Hg speciation and methylation gene analysis proved effective in identifying Hg pollution sources.

Summary: This article demonstrates how political cues influence individuals' beliefs in the vaccine and autism debate through two experiments. The results show that Republicans tend to follow President Trump while Democrats are more influenced by scientists. The implications of political encroachment into health and science are discussed.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of MeHg and EtHg exposure on human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and found that EtHg was more toxic to the cells. EtHg exposure resulted in decreased viability, increased granularity, increased apoptosis indexes, and alterations in cell cycle phases. It also caused mitochondrial dysfunction. In contrast, MeHg exposure only decreased cell viability.

Summary: This study found that both MeHg and EtHg can reduce the lifespan, impair climbing ability, induce lipid peroxidation in fruit flies, with additional physiological changes at high concentrations. Oxidative stress was identified as a key factor behind the toxicity of these mercury compounds.

Summary: CdTe quantum dots were synthesized using thiols as capping agents at different times, and NAC-capped CdTe at 1 hour showed the best sensitivity for thimerosal determination. The method proved to be fast, sensitive, and simple for direct quantification of thimerosal in vaccines, validated by cold vapor atomic fluorescence spectroscopy.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the risk of fever, febrile seizures, and emergency department visits after measles or pertussis vaccination in children aged 4-7 years with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The analysis showed no significant difference in the occurrence of fever or ED visits between children with and without ASD following measles or pertussis vaccinations. These findings provide reassurance regarding the safety of these vaccines for all children, including those with ASD.

Summary: This study investigated the interaction between thimerosal and P[4] protein, revealing the mechanism and subsequent effects on the protein's structural integrity. The reversible complexation of ethylmercury with the protein's cysteine residue and its impact on the protein's flexibility and stability were demonstrated and discussed. The findings contribute to understanding the challenges in developing low-cost, multidose formulations for new recombinant protein vaccine candidates.
