Summary: This study aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of gabapentin vs. carbamazepine as a treatment for primary trigeminal neuralgia (PTN). The results showed that compared with the carbamazepine group, the gabapentin group significantly improved the effective rate, reduced the adverse event rate, and improved the visual analog scale (VAS) score. The meta-analysis suggested that gabapentin may be superior to carbamazepine in terms of efficacy and safety in PTN patients.

Summary: The study comprehensively evaluated the efficacy and safety of pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) combined with pregabalin in the treatment of herpetic neuralgia. The results showed that this combination therapy effectively alleviated pain intensity and improved sleep quality, with low incidence of complications, making it a clinically valuable approach.

Summary: This study examined the serum levels of angiogenic factors in patients with acute and subacute pain and found that certain factors were up-regulated or down-regulated, which could serve as mechanistic biomarkers of pain. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms of pain.

Summary: This study investigates the metabolomic and proteomic signatures of disease progression in patients with herpes zoster and postherpetic neuralgia. The findings identify differentially expressed metabolites and proteins, as well as key signaling pathways, providing insights into the mechanisms of the conditions. The researchers also develop and validate predictive models for classifying herpes zoster and postherpetic neuralgia.

Summary: This study compared the whole brain networks of herpes zoster (HZ) patients and post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN) patients. It found that the functional connectivity changes between the ventral frontal cortex and occipital gyrus may be a robust neuroimaging marker for the transition from HZ to PHN. This research provides knowledge on the effectiveness of whole-brain network analysis in distinguishing HZ and PHN patients and predicting pain intensity.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the efficacy of long-term spinal nerve posterior ramus pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) in the treatment of subacute herpes zoster neuralgia (HZN). The results showed that the long-term PRF group had lower analgesic usage and a lower incidence of postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) compared to the conventional PRF group. Therefore, long-term PRF is a more effective treatment strategy for subacute HZN, as it can effectively prevent the occurrence of PHN.

Summary: This study aimed to create and authenticate MRI-based radiomic signatures for identifying DRG lesions in PHN patients. The study used a prospective diagnostic approach and divided the patients into training and testing sets to assess the efficacy of the model. The results showed promising sensitivity and specificity in detecting DRG lesions.

Summary: The study aimed to examine risk factors for prolonged hospital length of stay in inpatients aged over 90. Findings showed that admission diagnosis and comorbidities were key factors affecting hospital stay. Accurate prediction of prolonged hospitalization in this age group may be challenging and further research is warranted.

Summary: Pregabalin shows better overall therapeutic effect than gabapentin in patients with postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), but gabapentin has a lower incidence of adverse reactions and better safety profile. Clinicians should consider patient factors and evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of each treatment option to select the most suitable drug for patient use.
