Summary: The addition of SiC nanoparticles can significantly improve the tensile properties of the AZ91 alloy, with hardness and ultimate tensile strength decreasing as temperature rises, while work to fracture increases. Among the nanocomposites, the one with 2.0SiC(np) demonstrates the best tensile properties.

Summary: The addition of trace submicron SiC particles can promote the formation of lamellar (α+β) structure and improve the corrosion resistance of the alloy. However, the precipitation of granular β-Mg17Al12 phase with increased SiCp content leads to a gradual decrease in corrosion resistance.

Summary: The study showed that sealing plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) coatings on AZ91 Mg alloy in calcium nitrate solutions at different pH values can enhance the corrosion resistance of the coatings. Adding SDS facilitates the formation of precipitates, resulting in hydrophobic coatings with poorer paint adhesion but better corrosion resistance.

Summary: The study investigated the tensile properties and microstructure changes of the GW84 alloy during hot extrusion at different temperatures. It was found that the alloy exhibited excellent high temperature mechanical properties, with the ultimate tensile strength peaking at 393 MPa at 250 degrees C. The microstructure of the alloy underwent significant changes during the high temperature tensile process, including phase transformations and increased precipitation at higher temperatures.

Summary: This study focuses on the friction stir welding (FSW) of AZ91 magnesium alloy by using low rotational speeds, increased linear speeds, and a larger diameter shoulder and pin. The influence of welding forces and the characterization of the welds are investigated. Micro-mechanical static tensile tests are performed to reveal the material strength distribution within the joint, and a numerical model of temperature distribution and material flow is presented. The results show that a good-quality joint can be obtained, with a fine microstructure at the weld face and larger grains in the weld nugget.

Summary: In this study, the corrosion behavior of Mg2Sn alloy in different corrosion media was investigated. The highest corrosion rate was observed in the HCl solution, while the corrosion rate decreased with increasing pH of the electrolyte. Passivation of the alloy was observed in the NaOH solution. The corrosion of the alloy involved simultaneous oxidation of magnesium and tin.

Summary: This study investigated the thermal, electrochemical, and mechanical properties of Zn-30Sn solder alloy with different contents of CrFeCoNiCu high-entropy alloy (HEA) (0, 0.5, and 1 wt%). Ultrasonic stirring was introduced into the melting process. The results showed that the addition of HEA refined the microstructure and increased the precipitation phases. Ultrasonic treatment dispersed the phases and facilitated the formation of dense and uniform corrosion products. The Zn-30Sn solder alloy containing 1.0 wt% HEA exhibited the lowest corrosion current density, highest mechanical properties, and slightly decreased melting temperature.

Summary: Surface modification is an effective approach to improve the corrosion resistance of Mg alloys, with aluminizing being a low-cost and effective method. The addition of rare-earth elements like yttrium can enhance the benefits of aluminizing, resulting in improved resistance to wear, corrosion, and corrosive wear.

Summary: Due to their unique properties, low density, and high strength, magnesium alloys are increasingly used in industrial applications. However, their use may be limited by the need for high abrasive wear resistance and corrosion resistance. To overcome this limitation, protective coatings are often applied to magnesium alloys. This study investigates the influence of electrolyte composition modification on the properties of protective coatings formed on AZ91 magnesium alloy through the plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) process. The results show that the addition of borax significantly improves the abrasion resistance and corrosion rate of the coatings.

Summary: The Mg-2.2Gd-2.2Zn-0.2Ca alloy was cast through permanent mold casting and then subjected to homogenization and extrusion at different temperatures. The microstructure of the alloy showed the presence of alpha-Mg, Mg-Gd, and Mg-Gd-Zn intermetallic phases. The extrusion process resulted in refinement of alpha-Mg grains due to dynamic recrystallization, and higher basal texture intensities were observed at lower extrusion temperatures. The mechanical properties were improved after extrusion, but strength decreased with increasing extrusion temperature. Homogenization reduced the corrosion resistance of the as-cast alloy, while extrusion enhanced corrosion resistance.

Summary: This study investigated the corrosion behaviors of commercial die-cast Mg alloys with different thicknesses in neutral and alkali solutions. The results showed that decreasing the thickness of a specimen improved its hardness. Specimens with larger eutectic phases were more susceptible to corrosion under neutral conditions but were protected by passivation films in alkaline solution. Fine eutectic phases improved corrosion resistance by forming a net structure that inhibited corrosion propagation. It is suggested that the size and distribution of eutectic phases should be controlled according to the environment.

Summary: The study shows that the corrosion resistance of AZ91 alloy can be significantly improved by adding Ca and Bi, with AZ91 + 1.0Ca alloy exhibiting the best corrosion resistance. The combined addition of Ca and Bi is more effective in enhancing the corrosion resistance of the alloy compared to individual additions.
