Objectives: To evaluate the clinical performance of a rapid point-of-care test, Triage PLGF (Alere, San Diego) in the diagnosis of preeclampsia. Study design: For the reference range 2212 plasma samples were collected from 595 subjects with normotensive pregnancies, between week 17 of gestation and delivery. In the case-control part, two cohorts of women with preeclampsia (80 women) were matched for maternal age, gestational age (GA) at sampling and parity with normotensive women who delivered at 37 weeks or more. Results: The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves (GA < 35 weeks) were 1.0 and 0.994 (cohort 1 and 2, respectively). The clinical sensitivity of the Triage PLGF test for the pooled GA range of 21 <= GA < 35, using a GA dependent cut-off, was 1.0 for both cohorts with specificities of 1.0 and 0.940. Conclusions: The Triage PLGF test distinguishes well between preterm pregnancies with and without preeclampsia. (C) 2011 International Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy. Proton therapy for early breast cancer patients in the DBCG proton trial: planning, adaptation, and clinical experience from the first 43 patients

Maria Fuglsang Jensen, Line Bjerregaard Stick, Morten Hoyer, Camilla Jensenius Skovhus Kronborg, Ebbe Laugaard Lorenzen, Hanna Rahbek Mortensen, Petra Witt Nystrom, Stine Elleberg Petersen, Pia Randers, Linh My Hoang Thai, Esben Svitzer Yates, Birgitte Vrou Offersen

Summary: The study presented proton plans and adaptation strategy for the first 43 breast cancer patients treated with protons in Denmark, demonstrating robustness towards breathing motion, setup- and range uncertainties. Anatomical evaluations were used to define treatment tolerances for anatomical changes, ensuring low mean heart dose and meeting planning criteria for most patients. Plan adaptation was performed for the majority of patients to address anatomical changes.

The implications of the Fetal Medicine Foundation 35-to 36-week preeclampsia prediction competing-risk model on timing of birth

Summary: The Fetal Medicine Foundation 36-week competing-risk model can provide personalized guidance to women about the probable timing of their delivery and their risk of preeclampsia. Women in higher-risk categories are more likely to give birth earlier and through medically indicated delivery.

Summary: This study examined the effect of self-declared race on serum placental growth factor (PlGF) and sFlt-1/PlGF ratio and its impact on the prediction of pre-eclampsia (PE). The results showed that compared to white women, black, South Asian, East Asian, and mixed race women had higher mean PlGF levels and lower sFlt-1/PlGF ratios.

One-Year Treatment-Related Side Effects and Quality of Life After Chemoradiotherapy in Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Anus

Summary: The purpose of this study was to report patient-reported outcome (PRO) and National Cancer Institute-Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (NCI-CTCAE) data for patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the anus (SCCA) treated with modern radiation therapy (RT) 1 year after treatment. The study found that functional mean scores were comparable to a normal population cohort, and there were minor improvements in global health status/quality of life, emotional functioning, insomnia, and appetite loss. Bowel and bladder symptoms showed minor improvements or stable conditions, while some symptoms worsened moderately.

Incidence of pre-eclampsia: effect of deprivation

A. Arechvo, A. Wright, A. Syngelaki, P. von Dadelszen, L. A. Magee, R. Akolekar, D. Wright, K. H. Nicolaides

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the English Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) and the incidence of pre-eclampsia (PE), assess the distribution of IMD in a diverse cohort of pregnant women, and evaluate whether IMD improves the prediction of PE compared to a "history-only" competing-risks model. The results showed that the incidence of PE increased across IMD quintiles, and black women had a higher incidence of PE. However, IMD did not improve the prediction of PE compared to race and other maternal characteristics.

Preterm and term pre-eclampsia: Relative burdens of maternal and perinatal complications

Peter von Dadelszen, Argyro Syngelaki, Ranjit Akolekar, Laura A. Magee, Kypros H. Nicolaides

Summary: This study aimed to compare the relative burdens of maternal and perinatal complications for preterm and term pre-eclampsia. A prospective observational cohort study was conducted in two English maternity units, including unselected women with singleton pregnancies who developed pre-eclampsia. The results showed that preterm pre-eclampsia was more likely to lead to adverse maternal and perinatal events; however, the majority of maternal complications and a significant proportion of perinatal complications still occurred in women with term pre-eclampsia. Therefore, efforts should be made to reduce the incidence of term pre-eclampsia.

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the dose of loco-regional recurrences (LRRs) in anal cancer using a point of origin-based method. It was found that the majority of LRRs were located within the high dose volume, indicating radioresistance as the main cause of recurrence in anal cancer.

Summary: Among women of reproductive age, older age, White ethnicity, and being in the least-deprived index of multiple deprivation are independently associated with higher vaccine uptake. Ethnicity has the strongest influence, while multiple deprivation has the weakest. These findings are crucial for informing future vaccination policies and public messaging.

Placental growth factor testing at 19-23 weeks of gestation as a guide to subsequent care in pregnancy: A prospective observational study

Laura A. Magee, Argyro Syngelaki, Ranjit Akolekar, Peter von Dadelszen, Kypros H. Nicolaides

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the role of serum placental growth factor (PlGF) at 19-23 weeks of gestation in risk identification. The results showed that clinical risk factor screening had limitations in detecting adverse outcomes, and PlGF testing alone did not reduce false positives. Therefore, alternative strategies are needed to improve risk identification.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of implementing emergency care pathways on women with GDM during the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings showed that using HbA1c and fasting glucose can identify a higher-risk population of GDM, but it has minimal impact on pregnancy outcomes. Additionally, the high prevalence of undiagnosed pre-existing diabetes should be noted.
