Summary: In this study, the bioactive metabolites of Kavoli (R) water extract were characterized, and its potential ameliorating effects in a rat model of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) were evaluated. The results showed that the Kavoli (R) extract contained high levels of bioactive compounds and antioxidant activities, and significantly improved liver lipid and inflammatory markers, oxidative stress, and short chain fatty acid levels. These improvements are likely attributed to the high content of polyphenols in the extract.

Summary: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic and recurrent gastrointestinal inflammatory disorder with a rapidly increasing incidence, posing a global healthcare challenge. Efficient cure for IBD is lacking due to its elusive etiology and pathogenesis. Nanotherapeutic strategies utilizing advanced nanomaterials show promise in achieving positive clinical efficacy and reduced side effects. This review provides an overview of the characteristics of healthy and inflammatory intestinal microenvironments, discusses different administration routes and targeting strategies of nanotherapeutics for IBD treatment, explores nanotherapeutic treatments based on different IBD pathogenesis, and presents future challenges and perspectives.

Summary: This study explored the potential of Spinacia oleracea L. leaf aqueous extract green-mediated gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) in the treatment of endometrial cancer. Through a series of experiments and tests, it was found that the AuNPs had good physicochemical properties and antioxidant properties, and showed significant inhibitory effects on endometrial cancer cell lines. The importance of S. oleracea leaf extract-mediated AuNPs as an anti-endometrial cancer material was validated.

Summary: This study investigated the therapeutic effects of purslane macromolecular (POEM) and small molecular extracts (POES) on ulcerative colitis (UC) and found that POEM alleviated UC by regulating antioxidant capacity and gut microbiota, while the major alleviatory effect of POES was primarily related to the regulation of antioxidant capacity. These findings provide a theoretical basis for the development of purslane as a functional food.

Summary: There is a high demand for environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitors for metals and alloys. In this study, fresh spinach extract was used as a green corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel in a hydrochloric acid corrosive environment. The effectiveness of the extract at different concentrations was evaluated, and it was found that the inhibition ability decreases with increasing temperature and increases with higher extract concentration.

Summary: This study found that decoctions of Vernonanthura patens leaves have anti-inflammatory activity, particularly showing potential selective inhibition against COX2 enzyme, but moderate inhibition against COX1. Further experiments are needed to further evaluate the potential anti-inflammatory effects.

Summary: The study showed that Citrus unshiu leaf extract has anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting proinflammatory cytokines and chemokine secretion from macrophages. Oral administration of the extract also reduced proinflammatory cytokines levels and increased anti-inflammatory cytokine levels in a mouse model of systemic inflammation. Additionally, the extract decreased the secretion and gene expression of proinflammatory proteins in the liver and spleen of the model mice.
