Summary: Diapause is an important strategy for insects to survive extreme environments. In this study, it was found that mitochondrial ROS play a crucial role in diapause by regulating insulin signaling pathway. Injection of a glucose metabolism inhibitor could delay pupal development, while injection of a metabolite mixture could prevent diapause. Furthermore, ROS could activate HSP60 expression, promoting the degradation of mitochondrial transcription factor A and decreasing mitochondrial activity.

Summary: Human mitochondrial Hsp60 (mtHsp60) exhibits varying lower-order oligomeric states during the assembly/disassembly process, with the unstable heptamer providing insights into intermediates. This study identifies open trimer, tetramer, pentamer, hexamer, and closed-ring hexamer structures, as well as tetramers undergoing oligomer extension.

Summary: Cryo-EM structures of the porcine respiratory complex I reveal the binding and reduction mechanism of Q10 in the Q chamber. The study proposes a 'two-Q' model for the coupling mechanism of complex I. The findings overturn the widely accepted previous proposal and provide new insights into the structure and function of complex I.

Summary: Mitochondria are essential organelles that provide energy for cell function. The maintenance of their structure relies on mitochondrial dynamics, which is regulated by the cytoskeleton. Understanding the role of the cytoskeleton in mitochondrial dynamics is crucial for studying and treating neurodegenerative diseases.

Summary: A novel method, 3MG, was developed for accurately estimating biomass in meat mix samples. The method successfully identified 80% of animal species tested and showed high correlation in mixed samples of pork and chicken. The potential applications of this method in meat product safety are promising.

Summary: This protocol describes the interaction between the matrix domain (MA) of HIV-1 major structural polyprotein Gag and host tRNAs, as well as the co-crystallization and structure determination of the complex using X-ray crystallography. Rational engineering of the tRNA surface led to the formation of high-quality co-crystals. This protocol can be applied to solve the structures of other ribonucleoprotein complexes containing structured RNAs.

Summary: In yeast mitochondria, transcription initiation requires assembly of mitochondrial RNA polymerase and transcription initiation factor MTF1. This protocol outlines the purification of component proteins and assembly of partially melted and fully melted initiation complex states. Analysis through various techniques shows reproducible results for understanding MTF1's structural roles.
