Summary: UV radiation has significant impacts on the biogeochemical cycling in the ocean and the release of trace gases into the atmosphere. However, the current monitoring of UV radiation in the ocean is mostly done indirectly. Researchers have developed a method using the TROPOMI sensor to directly estimate the diffuse attenuation coefficients in different wavelength ranges, providing a new approach for global long-term monitoring.

Summary: An underwater image restoration algorithm is introduced based on color compensation and color-line model, which aims to enhance visibility and color fidelity by compensating attenuated color information and establishing a local transmission optimization model. The method outperforms others in subjective and objective evaluations, color accuracy tests, and application tests, producing significantly improved images.

Summary: High-quality underwater images and videos are crucial for underwater exploitation tasks, but the complexity of the underwater imaging environment often results in low-quality images. In order to improve the quality of underwater images by correcting chromatic aberration and enhancing sharpness, we propose a Differential Attenuation Compensation (DAC) method based on differential compensation. Our method stretches the contrast and denoises the underwater image, compensating for the loss of detail information in the red channel by utilizing the more detailed blue and green channels, and finally restores the image to achieve more realistic colors. Comparisons with state-of-the-art methods in public datasets demonstrate that our method effectively addresses chromatic aberration and blur issues, resulting in underwater images with more realistic colors, details, and improved quality evaluation indicators.

Summary: Underwater images suffer from color distortion due to light attenuation, making color restoration difficult. The method considers multiple spectral profiles of different water types and simplifies the problem by estimating global parameters. The dataset of 57 images allows for rigorous evaluation of restoration algorithms.

Summary: This study presents a novel underwater image restoration technique called the multicolor components and light attenuation (MCLA) method. It effectively eliminates color casts and enhances details through adaptive background light estimation and depth-map estimation. The MCLA method improves brightness, visibility, color correction accuracy, and detail restoration in underwater images.

Summary: The red spectrum is attenuated in underwater scenes due to the properties of water. This letter proposes a novel method for color correction in underwater images based on scene depth, effectively removing color cast on single pixels. Experimental results demonstrate the significant improvement in color effect and the suitability of the corrected images for subsequent underwater image defogging methods.

Summary: The nonuniform polarization information of backscattered light is often neglected in polarization underwater imaging. This paper proposes a method for estimating the degree and angle of polarization of backscattered light based on low-rank and sparse matrix decomposition. Experimental results demonstrate that this method overcomes the limitations of traditional methods and expands the detection field.

Summary: Underwater impurities cause poor imaging quality due to light absorption and scattering. Existing data-driven underwater image enhancement techniques lack a large-scale dataset and high-fidelity reference images. In this work, a large-scale underwater image dataset is built, and a Transformer network is introduced for the UIE task. The proposed method shows state-of-the-art performance in terms of enhancement and is validated through extensive experiments.

Summary: Color deviation in underwater images hampers the efficiency and accuracy of underwater applications. Our proposed method adjusts the spectral component of the light source and the spectral response of the detector to improve color reproduction. Experimental results show that warm light LEDs and 3xCMOS RGB cameras exhibit the smallest color deviation.
