Summary: In this study, we evaluated recent weighted multiple testing procedures for genome wide association studies (GWAS) through a simulation study. We also introduced a new efficient procedure called wBHa, which prioritizes the detection of genetic variants with low minor allel frequencies while maximizing overall detection power. Our results demonstrated that wBHa outperformed other procedures in detecting rare variants while maintaining good overall power.

Summary: Drosophila insulators are DNA elements that regulate gene expression by limiting chromatin contacts. By mapping chromatin contacts in Drosophila cells without key insulator proteins CTCF and Cp190, we discovered hundreds of insulator elements. Our findings suggest that Drosophila insulators play a minor role in overall genome folding but have a local impact on chromatin contacts. Our insulator catalog is an important resource for studying genome folding mechanisms.

Summary: This study found that intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) infusion could lead to falsely reactive results in human T-lymphotropic virus (HTLV) screening ELISA. Among the screened sera, the vast majority of false reactive results were from patients receiving IVIg infusions. The positive predictive value of HTLV screening ELISA in sera collected post-IVIg was considerably lower than that in non-IVIg and pre-IVIg sera.

Summary: This study identified PCMT1 as a critical driver of resistance to detachment-induced apoptosis in ovarian cancer cells. PCMT1 enhanced cell migration, adhesion and spheroid formation through interaction with the ECM protein LAMB3. Treatment with an antibody against extracellular PCMT1 reduced cancer cell invasion and adhesion. PCMT1 was highly expressed in late-stage metastatic tumors, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic target in metastatic ovarian cancer.

Summary: The study investigates how viruses interact with their vector, the varroa mite, and how these interactions affect viral epidemiology. Through transcriptomic analysis and experimental validation, it is found that virus abundances are positively correlated and viruses that coexist interact with the vector's gene co-expression modules in a similar way. Furthermore, silencing candidate genes leads to a reduction in varroa gene expression and a change in viral load.
