Summary: This scoping review characterized the literature on testing bulk milk samples for microorganisms that can cause diseases in dairy cattle. They identified 306 relevant studies, with bovine viral diarrhea virus, Fasciola hepatica, Ostertagia ostertagi, and bovine herpesvirus 1 being the most frequently screened agents. The sensitivity and specificity of bulk milk ELISA varied depending on the pathogen being tested.

Summary: Nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis (NBTE) is a type of endocarditis that occurs in patients with predisposing conditions, commonly referred to as marantic or Libman-Sacks endocarditis. The clinical presentation involves embolic events, with fewer valvular complications compared to infective forms of endocarditis. The diagnosis is primarily based on echocardiography, with comprehensive microbiological and serological tests to exclude infective endocarditis.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the imaging features of chronic non-bacterial osteomyelitis (CNO) in the spine and differentiate it from other spinal diseases. The findings showed that there are differences in the manifestation of CNO between children and adults, including the length of affected bone segments, the extent of bone marrow edema and osteosclerosis, and the involvement of posterior structures.

Summary: This study demonstrates that DM-ILD patients with negative MSA/MAA have favorable long-term outcomes. Decreased baseline PaO2/FiO2 is identified as an independent prognostic factor for this group of patients.

Summary: Chronic nonbacterial osteomyelitis is a common noninfectious autoinflammatory bone marrow disease in children and adolescents. Whole-body magnetic resonance imaging can assist in the diagnosis and assessment of disease severity, and early treatment can prevent permanent damage to the skeletal system.

Summary: This article summarizes the latest research on the association between idiopathic inflammatory myopathies and malignancy, the understanding of its pathogenesis. It analyzes the potential risk and protective factors for developing cancer-associated myositis (CAM), and proposes management recommendations and a new cancer screening scheme.

Summary: We present a case of Anncaliia algerae microsporidia infection in an immunosuppressed kidney transplant recipient in China. This pathogen was initially undetectable by light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy, but was eventually identified by metagenomic next-generation sequencing. Our case highlights the critical role of metagenomic sequencing in early identification of uncommon pathogens.

Summary: Blackleg, caused by Clostridium chauvoei, is a common cause of death in young cattle. Previously, heart lesions were believed to be uncommon in blackleg cases, but a study in 2018 reported otherwise. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of heart lesions in blackleg cases in Tennessee, USA. The University of Tennessee Veterinary Medical Center database was searched for blackleg cases between 2004 and 2018, and histology slides of skeletal muscle and the heart were reviewed. Of the 37 blackleg cases identified, 26 (70.3%) had heart lesions, indicating that cardiac involvement in blackleg cases is more common than traditionally believed.

Summary: This study compared the patient-reported IBM-PIC score with the physician-obtained IBM-FRS score and found that IBM-PIC is a reliable indicator of IBM-FRS score. The online platform is anticipated to be a valuable tool for assessing IBM severity and monitoring disease progression remotely.

Summary: This study retrospectively reviewed the characteristics and presentation of patients with CNO in the northwestern United States. The results showed an increased incidence rate of CNO in recent years, and the use of whole-body magnetic resonance imaging (WB-MRI) can assist in identifying asymptomatic lesions at presentation.

Summary: The study evaluated the frequency, pattern, and associations of MSA/MAA in a large Indian cohort of IIM patients. Results showed that MSA and MAA were detected at a high rate in IIM patients, and they were significantly associated with distinct clinical subsets, with different MSA/MAA related to different clinical subtypes.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the prevalence, characteristics, and treatment response of myositis in primary SS (pSS) patients. Results revealed that approximately 1% of the 395 pSS patients studied had myositis. Patients with suspected myositis had higher patient-reported scores, while those with confirmed myositis had a longer disease duration.
