Stationary black holes of massless supergravity theories are described by certain geodesic curves on the target space that is obtained after dimensional reduction over time. When the target space is a symmetric coset space we make use of the group-theoretical structure to prove that the second order geodesic equations are integrable in the sense of Liouville, by explicitly constructing the correct amount of Hamiltonians in involution. This implies that the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism can be applied, which proves that all such black hole solutions, including non-extremal solutions, possess a description in terms of a (fake) superpotential. Furthermore, we improve the existing integration method by the construction of a Lax integration algorithm that integrates the second order equations in one step instead of the usual two step procedure. We illustrate this technology with a specific example

About the Coleman instantons in D dimensions

V. F. Mukhanov, A. S. Sorin

Summary: In this study, we identify an infinite class of unbounded potentials that do not have Coleman instantons in D-dimensional spacetime. We introduce new instantons to describe the decay of a false vacuum for these potentials, as discussed in [5,6,4]. Additionally, we construct two different classes of potentials with exactly solvable instanton equations for each spacetime dimension D.

Comments on classical AdS flux vacua with scale separation

Fien Apers, Miguel Montero, Thomas Van Riet, Timm Wrase

Summary: This study investigates the flux compactifications of massive IIA supergravity with O6 planes, examining the properties of AdS(3) and AdS(4) vacua and the potential dual CFT(2) and CFT(3) theories. Results show stability of AdS(3) vacua and the absence of integer dimensions for operators in the putative CFT2 dual theories.

Axion wormholes with massive dilaton

Stefano Andriolo, Gary Shiu, Pablo Soler, Thomas Van Riet

Summary: This study focuses on the corrections to classical axion wormhole solutions in string motivated scenarios, and finds that these corrections are consistent with the weak gravity conjecture for axions. This has important implications for the path integral of quantum gravity.

Over-extremal brane shells from string theory?

Ulf Danielsson, Vincent Van Hemelryck, Thomas Van Riet

Summary: This article demonstrates that there must exist overcharged spherical brane shells in 4d in IIB string theory, if the usual phenomenological compactifications with warped throats and anti-branes are meaningful. These shells are made from D3-particles that puff into stable spherical five-branes with finite radii in 4d, corresponding to the supersymmetric AdS vacuum. Depending on the details of the warped compactification, these shells can be significantly larger than the string scale.

Minimal Massive Supergravity

Nihat Sadik Deger, Marc Geiller, Jan Rosseel, Henning Samtleben

Summary: The minimal massive gravity model in three dimensions propagates a single massive spin-2 mode around an anti-de Sitter vacuum, allowing for vacua with positive central charges and a bulk graviton of positive energy. Surprisingly, all vacua complying with bulk and boundary unitarity appear to break supersymmetry spontaneously in the supersymmetric extension of the model.

The supersymmetric Neveu-Schwarz branes of non-relativistic string theory

E. A. Bergshoeff, J. Lahnsteiner, L. Romano, J. Rosseel

Summary: We construct the basic Neveu-Schwarz (NS) brane solutions of non-relativistic string theory using longitudinal T-duality as a solution generating technique. By extending the NS background fields to a supergravity multiplet, we confirm that all solutions found are half-supersymmetric. These solutions can be interpreted as the background geometry outside a string-like object, with the winding string being part of the on-shell spectrum and the unwound string only making sense off-shell.

Towards an AdS1/CFT0 correspondence from the D(-1)/D7 system?

Sergio E. Aguilar-Gutierrez, Klaas Parmentier, Thomas Van Riet

Summary: We argue that a type IIB Euclidean supergravity solution belongs to a chain of AdS x S x T vacua with self-dual flux. These vacua come from the near-horizon of specific branes and have supersymmetry for odd values of dimension. For the matrix model dual, the hallmark of conformal symmetry is a vanishing free energy when the dimension is 1. The corresponding supergravity solution indeed has vanishing on-shell action and specific fluxes need to be switched on.

Generalized Newton-Cartan geometries for particles and strings

E. A. Bergshoeff, K. van Helden, J. Lahnsteiner, L. Romano, J. Rosseel

Summary: We discuss the generalized Newton-Cartan geometries as gravitational background fields for particles and strings, introducing torsionful geometries with independent torsion tensors to define affine connections invariant under all symmetries of the structure group. We find that some of the torsion tensors are intrinsic torsion tensors, and setting certain components to zero leads to geometry constraints. By considering constraints consistent with the structure group symmetries, we reproduce several previously known results.

Supersymmetric solitons in gauged N=8 supergravity

Andres Anabalon, Antonio Gallerati, Simon Ross, Mario Trigiante

Summary: We investigate soliton solutions in AdS4 by studying Wilson loops around one cycle and analyze the phase structure to find the ground state. In the context of a simplified scalar field truncation of gauged N = 8 supergravity, we discover new soliton solutions parameterized by Wilson loops and the degeneracy of supersymmetric solutions. Additionally, we demonstrate the existence of a non-supersymmetric soliton solution with lower energy than the supersymmetric one under alternate boundary conditions.

Gauged N=3, D=4 supergravity: A new web of marginally connected vacua

Pietro Fre, Alfredo Giambrone, Daniele Ruggeri, Mario Trigiante, Petr Vasko

Summary: This study analyzes the vacuum structure of Ai = 3, D = 4 supergravity coupled to 9 vector multiplets. In addition to a central AdS4 vacuum at Ai = 3, new AdS4 vacua preserving different supersymmetries are found, forming a manifold spanned by scalar fields. The study also explores RG flows from the central vacuum and discusses the potential higher dimensional origin of the new vacua. Furthermore, a review of the embedding tensor formulation of D = 4, Ai = 3 gauged supergravities is provided.

M5-brane in the superspace approach

L. Andrianopoli, C. A. Cremonini, R. D'Auria, P. A. Grassi, R. Matrecano, R. Noris, L. Ravera, M. Trigiante

Summary: Motivated by Sen's spacetime prescription, this article investigates the construction of theories with self-dual field strengths. A rigid superspace Lagrangian is proposed to describe noninteracting tensor multiplets living on M5-branes and to incorporate all physical constraints. The geometric superspace approach adopted here offers a natural realization of superdiffeomorphisms and is well suited for coupling to supergravity. However, the anti-self-duality property is lost when the superspace Lagrangian is trivially restricted to spacetime. Two main paths are proposed to address this issue.

Instantons and wormholes in AdS3 x S3 x CY2

D. Astesiano, D. Ruggeri, M. Trigiante, T. Van Riet

Summary: This paper studies supergravity instantons sourced by axion and saxion fields in the Euclidean AdS(3) x S-3 x CY2 vacua of IIB supergravity. The instantons are described by geodesic curves on the moduli space, where timelike geodesics represent Euclidean wormholes, lightlike geodesics describe (generalizations of) D instantons, and spacelike geodesics are their subextremal versions. The paper provides a concrete classification of such geodesics and finds that the wormholes are not regular, contrary to previous claims. A subclass of the lightlike geodesics is supersymmetric and can be lifted, through dualities, to Euclidean strings wrapping 2-cycles in the CY2. The dual of these instantons is expected to be worldsheet instantons of the D1-D5 conformal field theory.

Holographic evidence for nonsupersymmetric conformal manifolds

Alfredo Giambrone, Adolfo Guarino, Emanuel Malek, Henning Samtleben, Colin Sterckx, Mario Trigiante

Summary: We provide the first holographic evidence for the existence of a nonsupersymmetric conformal manifold resulting from exactly marginal but supersymmetry-breaking deformations. Specifically, we construct a 2-parameter nonsupersymmetric deformation of a supersymmetric AdS nongeometric background in type 1IB string theory. We prove the perturbative stability of the nonsupersymmetric backgrounds and their protection against various nonperturbative instabilities. Additionally, we argue that diffeomorphism symmetry safeguards our solutions against higher-derivative string corrections.
