Summary: The study evaluated the effect of colchicine in an animal model of hyperlipidemia. The results showed that colchicine reduced lipid levels, oxidative stress, and inflammation markers, and improved endothelial dysfunction. However, the use of colchicine may have adverse effects.

Summary: The study evaluated the efficacy and safety of colchicine in post-acute myocardial infarction (MI) patients. Results showed that colchicine did not significantly reduce cardiovascular mortality, recurrent MI, or other cardiovascular outcomes, nor did it increase drug-related adverse events. The findings suggest that colchicine may not have a significant impact on post-acute MI patients in terms of reducing mortality or cardiovascular events.

Summary: Inflammation plays a crucial role in the development of atherosclerosis and its thrombotic complications. Anti-inflammatory agents, such as colchicine, have shown promising results in improving cardiovascular outcomes. Colchicine, an ancient plant-derived drug, has been used to treat inflammatory diseases and is now being recognized for its potential effects in cardiovascular diseases. This review provides an overview of its anti-inflammatory mechanisms, its potential role in atherothrombosis, and an updated summary of clinical evidence in cardiovascular disease.

Summary: Paeonol, a natural compound, effectively inhibits the growth of Aspergillus flavus by damaging cell walls and compromising cell membrane integrity, altering the chemical composition of the cells. Additionally, paeonol reduces total lipid content, induces lipid peroxidation, changes glycerol content, and disrupts trehalose. Furthermore, it also decreases the pathogenicity of A. flavus in peanuts and corn kernels.

Summary: This study demonstrates that colchicine has therapeutic effects on ventricular arrhythmias induced by a high fat diet. Colchicine can improve metabolic parameters, reduce ventricular fibrosis, increase the expression of ion channels, and inhibit inflammatory responses, thereby reducing the susceptibility to ventricular arrhythmias in obese rats.

Summary: In this study, a long-acting Thioredoxin (Trx) was prepared by fusing human Trx with human serum albumin (HSA) and its efficacy in treating drug-induced heart failure was evaluated. The results showed that HSA-Trx administration suppressed the adverse effects of drug-induced cardiomyopathy, including heart weight decrease, myocardial fibrosis increase, and markers for myocardial damage. HSA-Trx also inhibited oxidative stress and inflammation, as well as the expression of myocardial atrophy factors. The findings suggest that HSA-Trx can improve the pathological condition associated with doxorubicin-induced cardiomyopathy.

Summary: This study used network pharmacology and molecular docking technology to explore the mechanism of colchicine in treating coronary artery disease for the first time. The aim was to predict the key targets and main approaches of colchicine in treating coronary artery disease, providing new ideas for disease mechanism research and drug development.

Summary: This study described the drugs used in the management of chronic CPP crystal inflammatory arthritis in European centres, and examined treatment retention. The results showed that colchicine was the first-line therapy with high retention rate, while methotrexate and tocilizumab were second-line therapies with higher retention rate.

Summary: Inflammaging is a potential risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, leading to the development of thrombosis and atherosclerosis. Ethanol can induce inflammation and senescence, which are both implicated in cardiovascular diseases. In this study, colchicine was used to mitigate the damaging effects of ethanol on endothelial cells. It prevented senescence, reduced oxidative stress, and inhibited the activation of NF-κB and MAPKs in ethanol-treated endothelial cells. Colchicine ameliorated the ethanol-induced molecular events, resulting in attenuated senescence and senescence-associated secretory phenotype in endothelial cells.

Summary: Inflammation plays a crucial role in the development and complications of atherosclerotic coronary artery disease. Despite current treatment, residual inflammation remains a concern, leading to recurrent cardiovascular events. Targeting inflammation through novel pathway-specific agents and repurposing established drugs has shown promise. This article discusses the importance of inflammation in mediating atherosclerosis and provides an update on new and old anti-inflammatory therapies.

Summary: A novel compound called colchicine-myricetin hybrid (CMyrH) was synthesized and shown to effectively protect cells from acute lung injury, reduce lung damage and inflammation in rats. Furthermore, the compound was found to inhibit apoptosis-related proteins and bind strongly to human neutrophil elastase. Overall, this study highlights the potential therapeutic application of CMyrH in treating acute lung injury.

Summary: The study evaluated the efficacy and safety of colchicine in the treatment of coronary artery disease. The results showed that colchicine can reduce the incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events, new acute coronary syndrome, coronary revascularization, and stroke in patients with coronary artery disease. However, colchicine may increase the risk of non-cardiovascular mortality and infection.
