Cross-bifix-free sets are sets of bifix-free sequences with the property that no prefix of any sequence is a suffix of any other sequence. This paper presents a general construction method for cross-bifix-free sequences based on kernels. The cardinality of cross-bifix-free sets follows the Fibonacci progression. A simplified method, applicable to a limited number of so-called regular kernel sets, is proposed as well. Properties of such sequences with an outline for further research are discussed.

Entropy Analysis of COVID-19 Cardiovascular Signals

Dragana Bajic, Vlado Dajic, Branislav Milovanovic

Summary: The world is currently facing the outbreak of the coronavirus, which has led to various serious problems, including cardiovascular complications. The mechanisms of coronavirus causing dysfunction of the cardiac autonomic nervous system (ANS) are not yet fully understood. This study focuses on analyzing different entropy measures as potential dimensions of cardiovascular data, showing significant differences in entropy measurements between healthy controls and COVID-19 patients. This research contributes to the understanding of the relationship between COVID-19 severity and ANS dysfunction, opening up avenues for further studies in this area.

Summary: This study identified two major phenotypes of doxorubicin-induced cardiomyopathy (DCM) in rats, with phenotype 1 characterized by left ventricular dilatation, reduced ejection fraction and increased NT-proBNP, and phenotype 2 characterized by left ventricular hypertrophy with preserved ejection fraction and moderate NT-proBNP increase. Both phenotypes exhibited a genetic shift to a new-born program.

Summary: This paper analyzes and compares different methods for copula density estimation by mapping the copula density into a time series and applying Sample Entropy estimates. The results show bias in each estimation method but also identify stable working regions for each case. Furthermore, analyzing the dependency level time series reveals information not extractable from classical time series data.

Summary: This study found that autonomic dysfunction, including sympathetic, parasympathetic, or both, may occur in COVID-19 patients in the early phase of infection, with significantly higher proportions in the severe and mild groups compared to healthy controls. Therefore, cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy should be taken into consideration in the assessment of COVID-19 patients.
