Summary: This study compared the presence and production of DHT and 11KDHT in Japanese eels and humans. The results suggest that in teleosts, DHT and 11KDHT may be important 5 alpha-reduced androgens produced in the gonads, while in healthy humans, DHT is the only major 5 alpha-reduced androgens.

Summary: This study found that low-dose, short-term exposure to BPA during puberty can affect male reproductive function in adult rats by altering hormone levels and gene expression profiles in the pituitary and testes.

Summary: Human activity has introduced novel chemicals into aquatic ecosystems, such as BPA which disrupts hormone-mediated processes. BPA is being replaced by BPS, but studies show that BPS can also disrupt hormone signalling, particularly of thyroid hormone. This study found that BPS exposure decreased swimming performance in zebrafish and had ecological consequences, likely mediated by thyroid hormone disruption.

Summary: DHT therapy may be preferable to T replacement therapy for penile enlargement in patients with 5 alpha RD2 deficiency during infancy. Both T replacement therapy and DHT therapy can increase penile length in infancy. T replacement therapy may promote penile enlargement during puberty and beyond.

Summary: 5 alpha-reductase type 2 (5 alpha RD2) deficiency is a disorder of sex development in which the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone is impaired. Penile enlargement therapy using high-dose testosterone and percutaneous dihydrotestosterone replacement is effective in patients with this disorder. However, the effectiveness of testosterone replacement therapy varies during infancy and puberty. Dihydrotestosterone therapy may be preferable to testosterone replacement therapy for penile enlargement during infancy, while testosterone replacement therapy can be an option during puberty.

Summary: This study suggests that exposure to aluminium chloride during the peripubertal period can have detrimental effects on prostate development in rats, including decreased body weight and reorganization of tissue compartments.

Summary: 3α-HSD enzyme plays a crucial role in regulating the concentration of 5α-DHT in the prostate. Understanding the mechanism of 5α-DHT hydride reduction by 3α-HSD could lead to the development of effective drugs for prostate cancer treatment. The study conducted comprehensive evaluation of human 3α-HSD type 3 crystal structure, revealing key interactions and mechanisms involved in the reaction process.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the histopathological alterations in the prostate of adult female gerbils caused by perinatal exposure to BPA (50 μg/kg) and E2 (35 μg/kg). The results showed that both BPA and E2 induced proliferative lesions in the female prostate by modulating steroid receptors in the epithelium. BPA was also found to be a pro-inflammatory and pro-angiogenic agent, with more pronounced impacts in the prostatic stroma.

Summary: This case highlights the importance of regular prostate examinations and PSA measurements in diabetic males, as PC can still develop in this group of patients despite lower incidence. Low serum testosterone levels in hypogonadal patients with diabetes do not rule out the development of PC, as it is determined by androgen levels within the prostate, particularly DHT levels.

Summary: This study evaluated the safety and functional impacts of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) in prostate cancer patients after robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP). The results showed that TRT did not significantly affect biochemical recurrence (BCR) but led to improvements in sexual health and serum testosterone levels.

Summary: The study found that rats exposed to BPA displayed increased anxiety and tendencies towards depressive behaviors, although BPA had no impact on basal CORT levels, adulthood T secretion, or sociability. Hops were able to mitigate the anxiogenic effect of BPA on rats, suggesting adolescence may be less sensitive to the deleterious effects of BPA compared to gestational and perinatal exposure.
