An efficient and environmentally friendly protocol has been developed for CuSO4-catalyzed N-arylation of nitrogen-containing nucleophiles with aryl halides in water. The method uses 2-hydroxybenzohydrazides as ligand, avoids the use of organic solvents, and tolerates functional groups well.
