Summary: In this study, Fe3O4@SiO2@NiCo2S4 nanocomposite catalytic materials were prepared using a low eutectic solvent and hydrothermal method. The catalytic mechanism was verified by Electron Paramagnetic Resonance experiments. Several assay platforms were established based on their different enzyme activities. A colorimetric sensing assay for ascorbic acid was developed with a linear range and detection limit of 1-200μM and 0.36μM, respectively. Sarcosine can be effectively quantified with a linear range of 1.25-350μM and a detection limit of 0.42μM. Fe3O4@SiO2@NiCo2S4 exhibited reusability and high precision in quantifying sarcosine in human urine samples.

Summary: Population growth has led to industrialization and intensive agricultural methods, resulting in deterioration of water quality due to contamination by hazardous pesticides. The herbicide Diuron (DIU) has been studied as a priority pollutant. The BaO-MWCNT composite material was used to modify the working electrode surface, increasing the efficiency of the Faradaic reaction and enhancing the electrochemical surface area. The developed sensor showed good selectivity, sensitivity, and reliability for DIU determinations.

Summary: We discuss the development of nanostructure-modified electrode surfaces for the electrochemical detection of environmental contaminants. These contaminants, found in everyday substances such as pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and personal care products, pose a threat to human and environmental wellbeing. Researchers have used various electrochemical techniques to detect these pollutants in different environmental matrices, often finding that nanomaterial-modified electrodes offer superior sensitivity and performance compared to standard electrodes. We review the properties of these nanomaterials and suggest further directions for improving the sensitivity and selectivity of these modified electrodes.
