We describe the New Mexico State University (NMSU) 1m telescope located at the Apache Point Observatory (APO), and in particular, its robotic mode of operation. Some of the issues we have encountered may be of interest to others developing similar facilities. This telescope provides a good example of the possibilities of locating a moderate-sized university robotic research telescope at a major observatory. We find that this mode of operation provides a significant amount of productive science data on a relatively small budget.

The Similarity of Abundance Ratio Trends and Nucleosynthetic Patterns in the Milky Way Disk and Bulge

Emily Griffith, David H. Weinberg, Jennifer A. Johnson, Rachael Beaton, D. A. Garcia-Hernandez, Sten Hasselquist, Jon Holtzman, James W. Johnson, Henrik Jonsson, Richard R. Lane, David M. Nataf, Alexandre Roman-Lopes

Summary: Comparing abundance ratio trends between Milky Way bulge and disk stars, it is found that they have nearly identical median trends, with some differences observed in high-Ia elements. This close agreement implies similar nucleosynthetic processes enriched both regions despite their different star formation histories and physical conditions.

SDSS-IV MaStar: Data-driven Parameter Derivation for the MaStar Stellar Library

Julie Imig, Jon A. Holtzman, Renbin Yan, Daniel Lazarz, Yanping Chen, Lewis Hill, Daniel Thomas, Claudia Maraston, Moire M. K. Prescott, Guy S. Stringfellow, Dmitry Bizyaev, Rachael L. Beaton, Niv Drory

Summary: The MaNGA Stellar Library (MaStar) is a collection of high-quality empirical stellar spectra covering all spectral types and is used to analyze the stellar populations of galaxies observed in the MaNGA survey. In this work, physical parameters for each spectrum in the library are derived, and the uncertainties and comparisons to other analyses are presented.

Summary: Researchers use APOGEE spectra to automatically identify multiple systems such as double-lined spectroscopic binaries, finding a 3% SB2 fraction among main-sequence dwarfs with some variation in temperature and metallicity. They also determine that some of these systems are eclipsing binaries through light curve analysis.

Detailed Chemical Abundances for a Benchmark Sample of M Dwarfs from the APOGEE Survey

Majewski, Thomas Masseron, Marc Pinsonneault, Donald P. Schneider, Matthew Shetrone, Keivan G. Stassun, Ryan Terrien, Olga Zamora, Guy S. Stringfellow, Richard R. Lane, Christian Nitschelm, Barbara Rojas-Ayala

Summary: Individual chemical abundances for 14 elements are derived for a sample of M dwarfs using high-resolution, near-infrared H-band spectra. The study finds good agreement between M dwarfs in binary systems and their warmer primary stars, indicating that M dwarfs can be used to calibrate empirical relationships. However, there is a systematic offset when comparing the results with the APOGEE Stellar Parameter and Chemical Abundances Pipeline. The APOGEE spectra can be used to examine Galactic chemical evolution using large samples of selected M dwarfs.

Sobeck, Keivan G. Stassun, Guy S. Stringfellow, Fiorenzo Vincenzo, John C. Wilson, Gail Zasowski

Summary: We applied a statistical analysis to measurements of elemental abundances in Milky Way disk stars and found complex structures and correlations in the abundance patterns. Using residual abundance analysis, we discovered differences in abundance patterns among different regions and populations, and confirmed the stochasticity in the production and redistribution of elements in chemical evolution models.

BACCHUS Analysis of Weak Lines in APOGEE Spectra (BAWLAS)

Christian R. Hayes, Thomas Masseron, Jennifer Sobeck, D. A. Garcia-Hernandez, Carlos Allende Prieto, Rachael L. Beaton, Katia Cunha, Sten Hasselquist, Jon A. Holtzman, Henrik Jonsson, Steven R. Majewski, Matthew Shetrone, Verne V. Smith, Andres Almeida

Summary: In this study, we utilized high signal-to-noise spectra data of approximately 120,000 giants to measure the chemical abundances of weak and blended species. By employing an updated version of the BACCHUS code and stellar parameters measured by APOGEE, we obtained precise measurements for Na, P, S, V, Cu, Ce, Nd abundances as well as C-12/C-13 isotopic ratios. The new catalog of chemical abundances provides significant improvements over previous methods and can be applied to a wide range of scientific applications.

Summary: This study presents occurrence rates for rocky planets in the habitable zones of main-sequence dwarf stars based on the Kepler DR25 planet candidate catalog and Gaia-based stellar properties. The conservative HZ occurrence is estimated to be between 0.37 and 0.60 planets per star, while the optimistic HZ occurrence ranges from 0.58 to 0.88 planets per star.
