Summary: Glasses were prepared from base binary lead borate and additional MoO3 through a melting-annealing technique. UV absorption bands extended in MoO3-doped glasses. FTIR spectra showed distinct vibrational bands, and gamma irradiation caused disappearance of some UV peaks. ESR measurements indicated the presence of molybdenum mainly in the hexavalent state. FTIR spectra after irradiation confirmed the stability of the high metal oxide lead borate glasses towards gamma irradiation.

Summary: The doping of chromium in lead metasilicate glass was explored using Raman, UV-Vis, and Cr Kedge XANES spectroscopy. The results showed that Cr ions are mainly present as CrO42- complexes, with limited solubility up to about 1 mol% of Cr2O3. This low solubility suggests that Cr2O3 could be used as a potential nucleating agent for lead-silica based glass-ceramics.

Summary: High-energy radiations can alter the physical, optical, and electrical properties of glasses. Gamma rays specifically induce absorption bands in the visible and ultraviolet spectra, affecting these regions predominantly. The study on Lithium Lead Gadolinium Silicate Glass revealed changes in emission peaks and UV-Vis spectra following gamma irradiation, indicating a potential impact on the structural composition of the glass.

Summary: Soda lime silicate glasses doped with metal oxides were synthesized and their optical and physical properties as well as the effect of gamma irradiation were investigated. The FTIR analysis showed characteristic bands for silicate units, while UV-Vis spectra revealed absorption bands of different metal oxides. After gamma irradiation, changes in the glass network stability and the appearance of new defects were observed. ESR spectroscopy elucidated the defect centers induced by ionizing gamma irradiation.

Summary: This study investigates the degradation of polylactide (PLA) under UV exposure. The results show that UV exposure leads to a reduction in PLA chain length, a decrease in glass transition temperature, and a decrease in the activation energy needed for thermal degradation. Furthermore, UV-induced degradation also affects the cooperative rearranging region (CRR) size and the kinetic fragility of PLA.

Summary: The study aims to convert lead silicate glass waste (LSG) containing toxic lead compounds into novel advanced ceramic materials by adding chromia Cr2O3 and hematite Fe2O3 ceramics during the recovery process. The evaluation of the produced composites showed that an addition of chromia and hematite as well as increasing their content to 15% enhanced the microstructural features, optical, electrical, and magnetic properties of the composites. Cr2O3/LSG composites are considered promising optical and electrical materials, while Fe2O3/LSG composites showed the highest optical and magnetic properties, suitable for optoelectronic and magneto-optical applications.

Summary: A host glass network consisting of 70B(2)O(3)-10Pb(3)O(4)-18ZnO-2Er(2)O(3) (ErCoCu1) was studied with the addition of 1 mol% of Co or/and Cu ions. The presence of Co or/and Cu ions was found to affect the structure, thermal, optical, and green emission properties of the glass. The results indicated that the addition of Co or/and Cu ions affected the compactness of the glass network and caused structural changes in the borate units.

Summary: The Bi/Sn-doped aluminosilicate glass samples were prepared by a melting-quenching method, and their near-infrared (NIR) emission properties were investigated. It was found that all samples exhibited an ultra-broadband NIR emission ranging from 950 nm to 1600 nm under 480 nm excitation, covering the entire low-loss window of fiber. The NIR emission spectrum showed a maximum emission peak at around 1206 nm with a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of approximately 220 nm. Additionally, the NIR emission intensity strongly depended on the composition of the glass, which could be optimized by adjusting the glass composition. The study proposed that Bi/Sn-doped aluminosilicate glass has great potential to be a new type of core fiber material and applied in optical fiber amplifiers (OFAs) due to its excellent performance in ultra-broadband NIR emission.
