Summary: This study developed a recombinant antigen-based immunochromatography test (ICT) kit for the detection of anti-Strongyloides IgG antibody. The NIE-SsIR ICT kit provided the best diagnostic results and can be used as a supplementary diagnostic tool and for screening asymptomatic S. stercoralis infection in endemic areas. It can also be used in large-scale sero-epidemiological investigations without the need for additional facilities or supplies.

Summary: The study assessed human CE seroprevalence, prevalence of CE in food animals and environmental contamination by E. granulosus s.l. eggs in different districts of Tataouine governorate. The findings suggest that CE is likely to be more endemic in the Tataouine governorate than previously described. A national survey is recommended to determine human CE prevalence in the different Tunisian governorates for effective control programme against CE.

Summary: In this study, contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) was found to be more accurate than conventional ultrasound (US) in differentiating between cystic echinococcosis (CE) and alveolar echinococcosis (AE) in the liver. The accuracy rate for CEUS was 91.3%, while for US it was 65.2%. Therefore, CEUS can be considered a reliable tool for the differentiation of hepatic echinococcosis.

Summary: The Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is a rare and highly endemic area for cystic echinococcosis, with limited research on serological diagnosis for the disease in Tibetan sheep, hindering epidemiological investigations. The study evaluated the diagnostic potential of a specific antigen in Tibetan sheep, showing promising results with high sensitivity and specificity, indicating a need for further research to validate its diagnostic accuracy.

Summary: A study estimated the direct and indirect costs of surgically managed cystic echinococcosis patients in Pakistan in 2017, finding that the average direct cost per patient accounted for a significant portion. Surgical management remains the primary treatment option for CE patients in Pakistan, but adherence to WHO treatment guidelines could potentially reduce the number of surgeries and treatment costs.

Summary: The current diagnosis of Lyme disease relies mostly on two-tiered serologic testing, which may have limitations. New chimeric proteins expressed in E. coli show potential in discriminating between serum samples of Lyme disease patients and healthy individuals. Promising results suggest that these chimeric proteins could be a valuable tool in improving the accuracy of borreliosis diagnosis.

Summary: Molecular characteristics of genes encoding Hypodermins A, B, and C of warble flies were studied, revealing their potential for serodiagnosis of bovine hypodermosis. Recombinant antigens and peptide-based iELISA showed high sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing the disease, with consistent results in seroprevalence studies.

Summary: A study in a highly endemic region of the Peruvian Andes evaluated the performance of a commercial rapid diagnostic test (RDT) for abdominal cystic echinococcosis (CE), finding that while the RDT showed good sensitivity, it had lower specificity compared to results in a hospital setting. Combining tests and excluding certain subjects improved performance, and using ultrasound alone or in conjunction with RDTs was more reliable for prevalence figures than serology alone, which tended to over-estimate the prevalence of CE.

Summary: Fasciolosis caused by Fasciola hepatica is a neglected zoonotic disease that affects animals and humans worldwide. The trematode releases juveniles that migrate through the host's intestine and liver before reaching the major biliary ducts. The current treatments and vaccines for fasciolosis are limited, and the study of early host-parasite interactions is crucial for finding new targets for treatment and prevention.

Summary: Fasciola hepatica is a parasitic trematode that causes fasciolosis in animals and humans. The increasing resistance of the parasite to current treatment is a growing public health concern. This study examines the early interactions between the host and the parasite in fasciolosis and identifies changes in protein expression in the parasite during excystment and crossing of the intestinal wall.
