Identifying and validating subtypes within major psychiatric disorders based on frontal-posterior functional imbalance via deep learning

Miao Chang, Fay Y. Womer, Xiaohong Gong, Xi Chen, Lili Tang, Ruiqi Feng, Shuai Dong, Jia Duan, Yifan Chen, Ran Zhang, Yang Wang, Sihua Ren, Yi Wang, Jujiao Kang, Zhiyang Yin, Yange Wei, Shengnan Wei, Xiaowei Jiang, Ke Xu, Bo Cao, Yanbo Zhang, Weixiong Zhang, Yanqing Tang, Xizhe Zhang, Fei Wang

Summary: Converging evidence suggests shared etiology and pathophysiological characteristics among major psychiatric disorders, and the neurobiology of the psychotic-affective spectrum may advance psychiatric diagnosis. This study identified two subtypes of MPDs based on functional imbalance patterns in the brain, with implications for precision medicine. The findings indicate that ALFF may serve as a novel biomarker to differentiate subtypes of MPDs.

ARPM-net: A novel CNN-based adversarial method with Markov random field enhancement for prostate and organs at risk segmentation in pelvic CT images

Zhuangzhuang Zhang, Tianyu Zhao, Hiram Gay, Weixiong Zhang, Baozhou Sun

Summary: The research developed a novel CNN-based adversarial deep learning method to improve multi-organ semantic segmentation of CT images and generate accurate contours on pelvic CT images. The proposed ARPM-net outperformed existing deep learning methods and achieved state-of-the-art performance on testing datasets, promising to facilitate the automatic segmentation of pelvic cancer radiation therapy planning.

Robust Detection of Link Communities With Summary Description in Social Networks

Di Jin, Xiaobao Wang, Dongxiao He, Jianwu Dang, Weixiong Zhang

Summary: The study discusses the issues of community detection in real networks and proposes a new Bayesian probabilistic approach to address these challenges. By exploring the correlation between communities and topics, the new method aims to discover link communities and extract semantically meaningful community summaries simultaneously. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the new approach and its ability to provide rich explanations through multiple topical summaries per community if desired.

Semi-supervised semantic segmentation of prostate and organs-at-risk on 3D pelvic CT images

Zhuangzhuang Zhang, Tianyu Zhao, Hiram Gay, Weixiong Zhang, Baozhou Sun

Summary: The recent development of deep learning approaches has greatly improved performance in medical data processing, especially in semantic segmentation. A novel semi-supervised adversarial deep learning approach has been developed for 3D pelvic CT image segmentation, demonstrating comparable or even better performance with substantially fewer annotated images. This new method utilizes both annotated and un-annotated data, generating synthetic data through generative adversarial networks (GANs) for training, outperforming existing state-of-the-art methods.
