Summary: The Oxytocin/Vasopressin system originated around 600 million years ago and regulates various physiological functions. Invertebrate models may be useful for studying functions of Oxytocin not related to pregnancy. Oxytocin affects uteri contractility, milk ejection, metabolism, energy homeostasis, skeletal muscle tonicity, and body temperature.

Summary: This study compared the spinal postures and mobility characteristics of patients with Prader-Willi syndrome, obese individuals, and normal-weight individuals. The results showed that patients with Prader-Willi syndrome exhibited greater thoracic kyphosis, less lumbar lordosis, and reduced lumbar and hip mobility compared to individuals with normal weight.

Summary: Prader-Willi Syndrome is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by two nutritional stages, with symptoms such as poor feeding behavior in early life and extreme hyperphagia in childhood. Understanding the genetics and molecular mechanisms of PWS may have implications for more common metabolic and psychiatric disorders.

Summary: This study aimed to provide reference data for visceral fat mass (VFM) in a large, healthy Caucasian adult population. The researchers measured total and regional fat mass using whole-body dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry scans and quantified VFM using the CoreScan application. The results showed that VFM increased with age and was higher in men compared to women.

Summary: Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder caused by genetic abnormalities. The most common defect is a deletion of genetic material on chromosome 15. PWS is characterized by hyperphagia and food-seeking behavior, leading to obesity and associated health issues. Currently, there are no approved treatments for PWS, but various clinical trials are investigating potential therapeutic agents.

Summary: This study provided sex-and age-specific body fat reference centiles for Chinese children and adolescents using DXA. Different trends were observed in body fat development and distribution between genders and age groups. The proposed body fat references were lower than the US values but similar to Korean values.

Summary: The study found that in patients with Prader-Willi syndrome, young adults' bone density can be maintained in a normal range through 3 years of GH treatment, combined with sex steroid replacement therapy. However, there was a decline in BMD among male patients during treatment, potentially due to inadequate SSRT.

Summary: The study found that patients with Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) had good awareness of the illness and medication effects, but lacked awareness of the social consequences of the disease. They were well aware of obesity/overweight and excessive appetite, but only mildly aware of excessive food intake. Insight was correlated with age and functionality, but not with BMI. PWS patients showed better insight into the illness compared to schizophrenia-spectrum patients, but similar awareness of medication effects and social consequences.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate body composition and its relationship with hormonal control in acromegaly, comparing the effectiveness of Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) with dual X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), which is commonly used in current studies. The results show that there were no significant differences in body composition between patients with controlled and active disease. In patients with adequate hormonal control, there was preservation of muscle mass and a lower prevalence of metabolic comorbidities, such as type 2 diabetes (T2D) and high blood pressure (HBP).

Summary: Metabolomics can provide valuable information about the biochemical mechanisms underlying the benefits of a body weight reduction program (BWRP). In this study, a targeted metabolomic approach was used to analyze the metabolomic profile of obese adolescents before and after a 3-week BWRP. The results showed that the BWRP significantly improved body composition, glucometabolic homeostasis, and cardiovascular function. A total of 64 metabolites were reduced after the intervention, while three metabolites were increased. Overall, the study highlights the effectiveness of a short-term BWRP in changing the plasma metabolomic profile. Rating: 9.5/10.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to determine if interval training targeted to the respiratory muscles in addition to a weight reduction program could improve exercise response in young obese patients. The results showed that both the RMIT group and the control group experienced similar weight loss, and both groups had increased peak pulmonary oxygen uptake. However, only the RMIT group showed improvements in cardiorespiratory burden and perceived respiratory discomfort during heavy-intensity exercise.

Summary: This study investigated the tolerability and immune tolerance acquisition rate in infants with cow's milk allergy (CMA) who were treated with amino acid-based formula (AAF) and then switched to EHCF + LGG, a formula containing the probiotic Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus GG. The results showed that after 12 months of treatment, the immune tolerance acquisition rate to cow milk proteins was higher in the EHCF + LGG group compared to the AAF group.

Summary: PWS is a complex disorder caused by the failure of paternal allele expression on chromosome 15. This study found that long-term GH treatment can improve body fat distribution and body composition in PWS patients. However, the increase in glucose values during GH therapy should be considered, and continuous surveillance of glucose metabolism is mandatory during long-term GH therapy, especially in obese patients.

Summary: Recent evidence suggests that simple and inexpensive anthropometric measurements can help identify obese women at higher risk for developing metabolic syndrome. This study compared the accuracy of different adiposity and body composition indexes in identifying metabolic syndrome in a group of 876 women. The results showed that VAI and CMI performed the best in predicting metabolic syndrome, and these indexes were also the most sensitive and specific. This study highlights the usefulness of VAI and CMI in clinical practice for detecting metabolic syndrome in obese women.

Summary: Little is known about the changes in organs and tissues that may make elder patients more vulnerable to acute stressors such as SARS-CoV-2 infection. In this study of elderly patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection, the association between vascular calcifications, bone density, muscle density, and the odds of dying was evaluated. Age was found to be the strongest predictor of body composition and death, overshadowing the relationships between these factors.

Summary: This study aimed to characterize unscheduled readmissions and identify predictors of 30-day readmission in patients with decompensated cirrhosis. The results showed that early liver-related readmission was associated with higher 1-year mortality, and the model for end-stage liver disease-sodium score and low hemoglobin level at discharge were identified as independent risk factors for early readmissions.

Summary: Although fatigue is a common symptom in young patients with obesity, there have been relatively few studies on their perception of fatigue and its impact on their quality of life. This study compared the reports of fatigue between children/adolescents with obesity and their parents using the PedsQL-MFS. The findings showed significant differences in the perception of fatigue between obese children/adolescents and their parents, with parents reporting higher levels of fatigue.
