Summary: This study identified vancomycin-resistant Clostridium innocuum as a pathogen causing antibiotic-associated diarrhea, with higher rates of complications and mortality compared to Clostridioides difficile infection. Chronic kidney disease, solid tumor, intensive care unit admission, and shock status were identified as independent risk factors for death in C. innocuum-infected patients. Precise identification and timely antimicrobial therapy are crucial due to the intrinsic vancomycin resistance of this pathogen.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical data, laboratory examination, and imaging examination of tuberculous spondylitis (TS) and pyogenic spondylitis (PS) and propose a diagnostic model for them. The study analyzed and compared the clinical data, laboratory results, and imaging findings of patients with TS or PS. A diagnostic model was constructed using binary logistic regression, and its effectiveness was verified using an external validation group. The study found significant differences in age, laboratory results, and imaging findings between the two groups.

Summary: We conducted a case-control study in 25 hospitals in India to investigate the causes of a COVID-19-associated mucormycosis outbreak. The study found that cumulative glucocorticoid dose, zinc supplementation, elevated C-reactive protein, host factors (renal transplantation, diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis during COVID-19), and rural residence were significantly associated with CAM. The study emphasizes the importance of judicious use of COVID-19 therapies and optimal glycemic control to prevent CAM.

Summary: The aim of this study was to compare readmissions and death between sepsis and non-sepsis hospitalisations the first year after discharge, and to investigate what diagnoses patients with sepsis present with at readmission. The aim was also to evaluate to what degree patients hospitalised for sepsis seek medical attention prior to hospitalisation. The results showed that patients hospitalised for sepsis had a higher risk of readmission the year after discharge compared with patients without sepsis. The most common diagnoses at readmission were infection followed by cardiovascular disease. With better follow-up, some of these readmissions could potentially be prevented. Patients hospitalised for sepsis had sought prehospital contact the week prior to hospitalisation to a greater extent than patients without sepsis.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the risk factors for deep surgical site infection (DSSI) following surgically treated peri-ankle fractures. Through a retrospective case-control study and conditional logistic regression analysis, it was found that time to operation, wound cleanliness, smoking, high-energy injury mechanism, and hematocrit were independent risk factors for DSSI. Therefore, timely improvement of these risk factors may help prevent DSSI.

Summary: This population-based, case-control study explores the relationship between prior tinnitus and the occurrence of chronic kidney disease (CKD). The study shows that CKD patients are more likely to have previously experienced tinnitus. However, there is no evidence suggesting that tinnitus is a predictor of subsequent CKD.

Summary: The objective of this study was to evaluate the association between breastfeeding history, including lifetime exclusive breastfeeding, and the risk of adenomyosis. The researchers found that breastfeeding history was negatively associated with the risk of adenomyosis. The results showed that women with a history of breastfeeding had a 40% decreased odds of developing adenomyosis.

Summary: Statistically significant differences were found between cisgender and transgender women in 14 measures, including fundamental frequency, jitter, shimmer, and voice turbulence index. The transgender women managed to feminize their voices through glottal adaptations, resulting in voices with less aperiodic characteristics and softer qualities compared to cisgender women.
