Summary: This article introduces the evaluation study of 1,3-butadiene conducted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, develops a new exposure-response model based on the SBR study, and analyzes it. The results show that the cancer potency of 1,3-butadiene is much lower compared to previous estimates.

Summary: The study found that 3,4-epoxybutane-1,2-diol (EBD) and its analogs exhibited high toxicity in cells lacking FANC genes, possibly transformed into bifunctional epoxy aldehyde, forming intrastrand cross-links. This finding is important in understanding the mechanisms by which EBD may cause leukemia and lymphoma in humans.

Summary: A light-assisted semi-hydrogenation process using water as the hydrogen atom source and in situ photocatalysis was developed, showing excellent catalytic performance and selectivity for 1,3-butadiene semi-hydrogenation at ambient temperature. This H-2-free process has the potential to bring advancements in industrial hydrogenation technology in terms of economic and safe operations.

Summary: The production of 1,3-butadiene from ethanol was carried out using ash as a catalyst in combination with Zr and Mg. Different catalyst combinations were used and characterized, and the yields and selectivities of 1,3-butadiene were determined. It was found that the Ash:MgO (1:2) catalyst had the highest yield and selectivity among the tested combinations, achieving 50% yield and 83% selectivity.

Summary: This study proposes a modeling method for space-based infrared detection of 1,3-butadiene, which effectively simulates the Earth background radiance and analyzes its detectability. The results show that the 10.9-11.1μm band is better for detecting 1,3-butadiene.

Summary: In this study, several silica-supported metal oxides catalysts were used for the production of 1,3-butadiene via the dehydration of 1,3-butanediol. The WO3/SiO2 catalyst showed the most promising activity, and various parameters such as reaction temperature, contact time, calcination temperature, and W content influenced the reaction rate and product yield.

Summary: This paper discusses the lack-of-knowledge uncertainty in complex nonlinear simulations and proposes the use of interval field techniques to model uncertain boundary conditions. It focuses on the unknown mechanical response from adjacent structures and introduces a spatially varying uncertain mechanical compliance method.

Summary: Species versus temperature profiles during the oxidation of 1,3-butadiene were measured in a jet-stirred reactor. The experimental results show the formation of aldehydes, ketenes, and intermediates such as furan, 1,3-cyclopentadiene, and benzene. The reaction pathways leading to the formation of these species were discussed, and a new detailed mechanism was developed to simulate the experimental data.

Summary: Bimetallic AgCu catalysts have shown promising applications in selective oxidation reactions. Adding a single monolayer of Ag to Cu significantly increases the selectivity for the epoxidation of 1,3-butadiene. The near-surface alloy of AgCu undergoes dynamic restructuring, enhancing oxygen dissociation on the Ag surface and improving the selectivity of the epoxidation reaction.

Summary: The study investigated catalyst deactivation and mechanism of coke formation during gas phase dehydration of 1,3-butanediol on various solid acids. Different nature of cokes formed on different catalysts were characterized, with higher molecular weight carbonaceous products observed on HZSM5 and TPA/SiO2 compared to Al2O3 and SiO2/Al2O3. Insoluble coke was only detected on TPA/SiO2, attributed to the strength of its Bronsted acid sites. Additionally, GCMS chromatograms of total soluble coke revealed the presence of aromatic and polyaromatic species, particularly well differentiated on HZSM5.

Summary: This study successfully identified and characterized the reductive dechlorination of HCBD by Dehalococcoides through in vivo and in vitro experiments as well as quantum chemical calculation. It revealed that HCBD-dechlorinating Dehalococcoides extensively dechlorinated HCBD to (E)-1,2,3-tri-CBD through (E)-1,1,2,3,4-penta-CBD and (Z,E)-1,2,3,4-tetra-CBD in a co-metabolic way. It also found that HCBD-dechlorinating Dehalococcoides coupled their cell growth with dechlorination of PCE, and significant inhibition of BDCM on hydrogenase activity could block electron derivation from H2 in the in vivo experiments.

Summary: The kinetics of 1,3-butadiene synthesis from ethanol and acetaldehyde over ZrO2-MgO-SiO2 catalyst were studied, showing that the aldol condensation step followed the Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism. The obtained kinetics models were verified under different conditions, suggesting their validity for practical applications.

Summary: The catalytic dehydration of 1,3-butanediol to produce 1,3-butadiene over yttrium zirconate is influenced by the calcination temperature and reaction temperature, with higher temperatures leading to increased BD yield but also more coke formation and by-product formation.
